  • After a brief reflection over the holiday season, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced that he would resign as Leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister, pending a Liberal leadership race. This decision follows the unexpected resignation of his Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, and pressure from within his party for him to step down. Here’s what what you need to know about Parliament, a Liberal leadership race, the Conservative perspective, and key dates ⬇️

Public Affairs. Issues Management. Crisis Communications. Political Pundit

If your organization has a pending issue or crisis to manage, announce tough news on your timeline or someone will do it for you. There will be plenty of analysis and punditry on the politics of what comes next for the Prime Minister, but there are early lessons that apply beyond politics. Tough issues are rarely a surprise to any organization. There is almost always a window to announce what’s happened, what’s happening next, and your plans to address the issue or crisis. That window can close faster than you might think. You have to consider when to make an announcement on your own terms, before the media or other stakeholders do it for you.

  • The City of Cranbrook has put a stop to comments on Facebook and X to stop the flood of harassment toward Council and staff. But here’s the thing—shutting down the convo isn’t the solution. 🤔 As a city, your job is to LISTEN to your people-- This is a chance to understand what’s really happening and where discontent is coming from, to form meaningful resolutions. If you close one channel, make sure there’s a new, accessible space for residents to share their thoughts. 🗣️

  • This holiday season, ChatGPT introduced the Santa Voice feature, offering a unique way to engage with Santa through AI. By combining the magic of the holidays with the power of AI, this simple yet effective addition enhances the user experience, especially for families. It’s a reminder that not every innovation needs to be complex—sometimes, the most impactful ideas are the ones that bring joy and connection in the most straightforward way. This one's a huge sleigh 🎅🏼👏🏼 #goodspeak https://lnkd.in/guz3m5bK

  • Aping another brand’s trend can be effective in garnering attention — when it aligns with your own brand. But when there’s as wide a gap between the image people associate with a streaming music service and the people responsible for national defence and disaster relief, the results are always going to fall flat.     The CAF Instagram account makes our holiday naughty list for wrapping their own image with a box that simply does not fit. In 2025, we encourage CAF social to reconsider their communications with a guiding principle that Canadians would like to take them seriously. Subscribe to #goodspeak: https://lnkd.in/daPcctWr

  • Apple’s ad for its new Hearing Aid feature in the latest AirPods hits every mark for a perfect holiday campaign 🎁   This is emotional storytelling at its best. The ad transports viewers to a family’s Christmas morning. It’s all muffled laughter for dad until the moment he puts on his AirPods. His daughter’s guitar playing fills the air with vibrant, crystal-clear notes — a sound he’s been missing for far too long.    The ad masterfully shifts the focus from product features to the transformative benefits they bring. By immersing the audience in the father’s experience, it highlights how technology can profoundly reconnect us to life’s most cherished moments. It's relatable, heartwarming, and unforgettable. #goodspeak

  • After spending 2024 shattering records and elevating women's basketball to levels of relevance its never seen before, Caitlin Clark was named @TIME's Athlete of the Year. Her interview stirred controversy among anti-"woke" pundits, who falsely claimed she was "apologizing for being white" after acknowledging the role its played in her success. Let's set the record straight - an acknowledgment is not an apology. Our take below ⬇️ In fact, her comments reflected a nuanced perspective—something increasingly rare in today’s polarized climate. Her statement didn’t diminish her own accomplishments but recognized the broader historical and cultural context of the WNBA.     This backlash underscores a familiar conundrum faced by public figures — you’re criticized no matter what you say. Had Clark ignored the subject of privilege, she would have been labeled self-centered or out of touch. By addressing it with thoughtfulness, she’s accused of pandering or undermining the value of hard work.    Two things can be true: Clark is one of the best players in the game and works tirelessly to be so. And the WNBA’s legacy has been built on the hard work of black women, which deserves acknowledgment. Clark’s ability to acknowledge both truths is a testament to her integrity. #goodspeak

Regardless of the path Justin Trudeau takes in the new year, all of his options lead to him no longer being Prime Minister by the end of 2025. As always, it was great to join Rob Brown and Sabrina Grover on CBC Calgary to talk about the latest #cdnpoli news out of Ottawa. Enterprise Canada
