We are delighted to announce that Dr. Satyam Sahay has joined our department as a Visiting Professor of Practice on December 9, 2024. Dr. Sahay is a John Deere Fellow and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, with extensive expertise in Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing Technologies. At John Deere Enterprise Technology & Engineering Centers in India and Mexico, he has driven impactful innovations by applying analytics and AI/ML across marketing, finance, product engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support functions. He has also led John Deere's product circularity benchmarking initiative for the 2030 Product Circularity Leap Goals, focusing strongly on systems modelling and analytics in metallurgical industries. Dr. Sahay holds a B.Tech from BIT Sindri, an M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah. With 12 years of experience at Tata Research Development and Design Center and over 15 years at John Deere Technology Center Pune, he has achieved significant accolades, including Fellowships at ASM International (2013) and The Indian Institute of Metals (2011), along with awards like Young Metallurgist of the Year (2004) and Metallurgist of the Year (2008). He is an innovator with 9 patents, 6 trade secrets, 72 journal papers, over 100 conference contributions, and 1500+ citations. Dr. Sahay has held leadership roles in professional societies such as IIM and ASM, served on five international journal boards and the ASM Handbook Committee, and co-chaired major conferences. He has also contributed as a former Senate Member of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa and a Research Board Member at COEP Technological University Pune. The Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, IIT Kanpur hosted the #SolarButterfly team at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur on November 4 during their India Friendship Tour. The SolarButterfly, the world's largest #solar-powered vehicle, symbolizes the transition from #fossil fuels to clean energy. Towed by Tesla, it generates electricity through solar panels. Since March 2022, the team has been promoting #environmental awareness on a world tour. Prof. Roger Buser, Tobias Hieltscher, and Jessica Zenner shared their experiences traveling in a nearly #zero-emission trailer, designed by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, IIT Kanpur, celebrated its second Research Scholars’ Day (RSD) on 24th August 2024. RSD is an annual event that serves as a platform for the students to showcase their research work and allows them to engage in stimulating discussions. The event featured the invited lecture by Prof. RAJIV DUSANE from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay on "The Mantra for Timely, Successful, and Rewarding Research Career” providing insights on navigating a #research career effectively which resonated strongly with the students. He emphasized the importance of motivation, continuous exploration, broadening scopes, #collaboration and sharing, and #ethical practices in achieving long-term success.
