Chairman’s Review of 2024: A Remarkable Year for Rugby in Oman As we close the chapter on an extraordinary 2024, I reflect with immense pride on a year defined by milestones, community spirit, and outstanding achievements that showcase the passion for rugby in Oman. 🌟 Highlights of 2024: 🏉 February: Oman Touch 6s at Qurum Park Our flagship event at the scenic Qurum Park brought together eight teams, featuring players of all skill levels in a mixed social format. This event reinforced our commitment to inclusivity and expanding rugby’s reach, while also welcoming Oman’s 7th registered club, Oryx RFC. 🌍 July: Touch Rugby World Cup – UK A historic moment for Oman rugby! Our national squad, with 50% Omani players, made their debut on the global stage. Months of rigorous training paid off as they finished 16th out of 19 teams. This remarkable achievement highlights the rapid progress of rugby in Oman. 🚀 Monthly: High-Performance Training To elevate the standard of play, we introduced an open high-performance training program led by our national coach. This initiative is fostering a deeper talent pool and preparing our players for future challenges. 📈 November: Record-Breaking Muscat 6s This year’s Muscat 6s set new benchmarks with 10 teams, over 200 players, and two divisions (male and mixed). Highlights included participation from 40 Omani nationals and 25 female players, reflecting our commitment to diversity. We also welcomed our 8th registered club, Mehlah RFC. 👩🦰 December: Dubai Rugby 7s Making history, a women’s team debuted at the Dubai Rugby 7s and reached the semi-finals. These trailblazers are setting the stage for the future of women’s rugby in Oman. Looking Ahead to 2025, we plan to: - Launch a youth talent program in schools. - Expand participation among Omani nationals, youth, and women. - Begin our journey into 7s rugby. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our players, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, and sponsors. Your support has been instrumental in making 2024 a landmark year. Thank you for your unwavering belief in the potential of rugby in Oman. Here’s to an even brighter future in 2025! #RugbyInOman #TouchRugby #CommunitySpirit #SportsDevelopment

✨ Reflecting on Our Journey: "Rugby In Oman" Through the Years As 2024 comes to a close, we celebrate how far we've come since the founding of Oman Rugby, but first, lets honour the roots of the sport in Oman. 📅 August 9, 1971: The journey began when His late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said graciously became Patron of Muscat Rugby Football Club. Starting in Wattayah, the first pitch featured simple goalposts made from telegraph poles and metal pipes. 🌍 March 1-2, 1973: The inaugural International Sevens tournament was a landmark event. It became even more special when His late Majesty Sultan Qaboos attended the final, where Muscat 'A' faced Dubai 'A', ending with a score of 6-22. 🏉 1977: A proud moment for MRFC as they were given permission to transition from their original gold and blue strip to Oman’s national colours—red, green, and white. From humble beginnings to a vibrant community, Oman Rugby continues to grow and inspire. Here's to the legacy of #RugbyInOman and the future we’re building together! 🙌🏽 👉 Make sure you follow Oman Rugby to stay updated on our journey and be part of the exciting moments ahead. Together, let's keep the spirit of rugby alive! 🏉💪

🎉 A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Talent! 🏆 It was an honour to witness the vibrant energy and talent of the next generation at the Indian School Wadi Kabir Cambridge International’s annual senior sports day. Special thanks to Nabs Al Busaidi, Chairman of Oman Rugby, for gracing the event as Guest of Honour and inspiring students with his passion for sports and leadership. Over 500 students showcased their athletic prowess across various competitions, along with impressive displays of music, yoga, and martial arts, embodying the spirit of teamwork, creativity, and discipline. Moments like these highlight the incredible potential of young minds when they’re encouraged to excel both on and off the field. 🌟 #YouthEmpowerment #SportsDay #RugbyInOman #EducationThroughSports #Inspiration

Rugby 7s is one of the newest Olympic sports, but it is also one of the fastest growing in popularity, and that is because of the amazing tournament atmospheres...and the biggest and best 7s tournament in the world is the Dubai 7s, right on our doorstep...as you can see from this short video

This weekend marks the world’s largest mass-participation rugby 7s tournament, with teams traveling from all corners of the globe! Over the course of 3 days, teams will compete in 15 divisions, across eight grass fields at The Sevens Stadium, giving their all on the pitch before soaking up the vibrant off-field atmosphere. A special shout-out to Muscat RFC, who are making history by sending not only a men’s team, but also their first-ever women’s team. Best of luck to everyone participating! 🏉 #Rugby7s #MuscatRFC #RugbyInOman

While touch rugby isn’t considered a high-risk sport, we believe in going the extra mile to prioritize safety. Having competent and qualified first aid professionals on-site gives everyone peace of mind and ensures a safe, enjoyable experience for all. A huge thank you to Oman International Hospital, Stefan James MacMillan Skrzywanek and Marcelo Nuno Gonçalves Pereira for their invaluable support during our tournaments! By providing highly skilled medical staff, they’ve reinforced one of our core values: ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. Thank you, Oman International Hospital, for being an essential part of our event's success! 💪👏 #WeCare #SafetyFirst #Oman6s #RugbyInOman #Muscat6s

We were lucky to have one of our major sponsors, and long time supporters, Renaissance Services represented by Stephen R Thomas, on hand to award the men's trophy to @DakDemonsRugbyClub... ...back to back wins for Dak, but can they make it a hat-trick of wins at the OT6s in 10 weeks time?
