[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sīĺ (“spit, pointed stick or pole”); cognate with Azerbaijani şiş, Bashkir шеш (şeş), Kyrgyz шиш (şiş), Southern Altai тиш (tiš), Turkmen çiş and Tuvan шиш (şiş).
