3six0 Architecture has designed a new home for Community MusicWorks, a Providence-based #nonprofit. The 24,000-square-foot #masstimberbuilding, completed in September 2023, provides music instruction and performance space for underserved residents. The #architects carefully considered the #acoustics and #buildingmaterials used in the #construction to prevent the building from amplifying sound. https://lnkd.in/dSwDZQbd

Neutral, a Madison-based developer, is set to build The Edison, a 31-story mass timber skyscraper in Milwaukee. Designed by Chicago's Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, this project will be one of the tallest #masstimberbuildings in the world. Originally planned to be 32 stories, the design has been slightly modified to optimize parking and construction efficiency. The building will feature a large penthouse and utilize over 100,000 cubic feet of #CLT and glulam beams. #Construction is expected to begin in early 2025. https://lnkd.in/eANdYpHK

Don't miss these TOP 5 reasons to choose #masstimber. See over 800 mass timber projects and filter your searches to find built or under-construction projects that are most relevant to you: https://lnkd.in/gc8g6bx https://lnkd.in/g_rgnufM
Five reasons to choose mass timber: 1. Faster construction/shorter schedules: prefabricated and precise 2. Exposed wood: aesthetic value; potential for faster leasing premiums; portfolio distinctions + biophilic benefits; healthy indoor environment 3. Lightweight structure: especially beneficial on sites with poor soils, for vertical additions above existing buildings, and for multi-story projects in high seismic regions 4. Labor shortage solutions: requires small crews for timber installation and you can utilize more entry-level laborers when MEPF systems are fully designed, coordinated and pre-planned 5. Sustainability: natural and renewable with a lower carbon impact; supports healthy forest and rural economies Learn more about mass timber products, their applications, and more at woodworks.org: https://lnkd.in/d8BScYHb Pictured: 1510 Webster in Oakland, CA / oWOW / DCI Engineers / photo Andrew Nelson

WoodWorks has been partnering with partners in Maui to advance the use of #masstimber across Hawaii, offering a sustainable, fire-resistant, and fast-to-construct building solution. This effort includes training local workers, designing Hawaii’s first mass timber home on Kauai, and incorporating mass timber into plans for rebuilding Lahaina homes after the wildfires. With support from the USDA Forest Service, the initiative provides free or reduced-cost design plans and on-site training, aiming to reduce carbon impact, promote resilience, and create opportunities for the next generation of builders in Hawaii. Hawaii Off Grid : Architecture & Engineering “We want to encourage the next generation to stay on the Island, and get involved in the industry,” said Matt Kopp, project manager at Hawaii Off Grid : Architecture & Engineering. “We anticipate a massive demand for contractors who know how to work with mass timber in the coming years.” https://lnkd.in/ggEdjBmN
