StructureCraft celebrated 2024 at our annual Year End Party, bringing together folks from Vancouver, Abbotsford, Seattle and Trento! We reminisced on delivered projects, gave out staff awards, and enjoyed the best prime rib in BC (we think). It was a time of fellowship and good cheer, looking back on a year full of success for all. These 53ft, 18,000 lb. cross-laminated timber shear walls include glulam "flanges" to develop the chord forces and assist with carrying gravity loads from the beams framing into the core. The chord tension forces are then transferred into the foundations with a carefully detailed knife plate and dowel connection. Forming the building's central core, the all-wood shear walls are prominently displayed in the elevator lobby and tenant spaces. This cutting-edge lateral system is a key feature of One Bridgeland Green in Cypress, TX, a 58,000 sqft office designed to resist the significant wind loads common in the Gulf Coast region. Howard Hughes has celebrated the topping out of One Bridgeland Green, Greater Houston's first mass timber office building and the first office development in the 925-acre urban district of Bridgeland Central. Our design challenge on One Bridgeland Green was to create an efficient structure that met the owner’s vision for a sustainable, state-of-the-art office space showcasing a mass timber structure. Enjoy the latest site photos from AirLuxe Studios - we will finish erecting the entire superstructure in under 13 weeks! The project, located just outside Houston, TX, utilizes cross-laminated timber (CLT) shear walls for the lateral system, which are designed to resist the significant wind loads common in the Gulf Coast region. The shear walls form the building’s central core and are prominently displayed in the elevator lobby and tenant spaces. A tennis court spanning 55m (180ft) with a flowing glulam shell structure. Last year we collaborated with Victor B. Ortiz | Architecture and TimBau Structures to provide structural engineering services for the Cuiabá Tennis Court in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The 500-seat complex features a geometric form drawn from the radial shape of sea urchins, providing shade and ventilation while blending with the surrounding environment. The roof’s structure is achieved through its interaction with a concrete tension ring at the perimeter and a steel compression ring at the oculus. The lateral force-resisting system is composed of strategically placed braced frames around the perimeter, ensuring stability against wind and seismic forces. Spanning 55m (180ft) and covering 2700 sqm (29,000 sqft), the structure demonstrates the versatility of timber in creating large, unobstructed spaces. #longspan #timber #structuralengineering #tennis #matogrosso #brazil #architecture
