Last Thursday, we teamed up for a "Breaking Brownfields" event at the historic Letchworth Village in Stony Point, NY. With over $5M in asbestos abatement challenges and a history of community pushback, this 20-acre site presents both obstacles and opportunities. Our interactive session, expertly moderated by our Director of Environmental Services, Cailyn Bruno, PG, LSRP, brought together a panel of experts to explore environmental cleanup funding and brainstorm innovative redevelopment ideas. 💡 Our team loved Cailyn's vision of a boutique hotel, farm-to-table restaurant, wine bar, baby goats, and native flowers—but we know there are even more possibilities! What redevelopment ideas would you suggest for this site? We’d love to hear your thoughts! 💭 If your community is facing challenges redeveloping an underutilized, possibly contaminated property, we can help. Our "Breaking Brownfields" sessions bring together experts—from developers and planners to attorneys and elected officials—plus our own brownfield specialists, to create comprehensive, creative solutions. Let us help you navigate regulations, secure funding, and shape your community's vision. 🤝 Echoing a special thanks to ULI Westchester/Fairfield, Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny, and Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan for hosting and our panelists: Ashley Ley, AICP, AKRF; Julia Martin, Bousquet Holstein PLLC; Mimi Raygorodetsky, Langan Engineering & Environmental Services; Neil J. Alexander, LEED® AP, Cuddy & Feder LLP; Ken Kearney, Kearney Realty & Development Group for sharing their expertise! #ULIwestchesterFairfield #NJITTAB #BreakingBrownfields #BrownfieldRedevelopment #SustainableDevelopment #LetchworthVillage #CommunityRevitalization #HistoricPreservation #InnovativeIdeas
We had a great event today at the abandoned Letchworth Village, a former psychiatric facility in Stony Point, NY. This site is facing over $5M in asbestos abatement and a history of community pushback. NJIT TAB and ULI Westchester/Fairfield gathered a panel of industry experts to put heads together in a facilitated brainstorm session we call "Breaking Brownfields." My idea, free for the taking: boutique hotel, farm-to-table restaurant, a wine bar, baby goats, and native flowers. Thank you to our experts: Ashley Ley, AICP, Julia Martin, Kearney Realty & Development Group, Mimi Raygorodetsky, Neil J. Alexander, LEED® AP, and Orangetown Supervisor Kenny--and a big thank you to Stony Point Supervisor Monaghan for hosting us!
