Yesterday, the Arts Co-op team hosted “Alumni Connect”, a networking event where Faculty of Arts and Arts Co-op alumni discussed their co-op/career journeys and gave current students some tips and tricks about job applications, making the most of their undergraduate degree, and life after graduation. Below are some of the main points from yesterday’s event. · When applying to jobs, show the company you know about them and are interested in their work. · Make sure you apply to jobs that you are interested in and would be excited about doing. · Strategically mass apply to jobs by catering your resume and cover letter to each posting. · Think of networking as a way to meet new people and make friends, rather than as a transactional event. · Volunteering is a great way to build skills, expand your network, and be productive. · Take the plunge and do things you are interested in, even if you must do them alone. · Take advantage of the resources in the university, like interview prep. and resume/cover letter help. · Get a breadth of experience while you are at university. Do extra curriculars, study abroad, join clubs etc. · Be loud and creative. · Use every job/volunteer experience you have as a stepping stone to build your skills. · Be confident in your own abilities and trust your skills. Thank you to all the alumni who volunteered their time to speak to students yesterday! Your insights were incredibly valuable, and we loved hearing about your career journeys. Thank you to all the students who attended the event as well! We hope this event provided some help and reassurance about your co-op and career journeys. Thank you for everyone who made this event possible!
