A new report from the Milken Institute Alliance to Improve Dementia Care presents the latest insights, innovations, and scalable solutions to enhance early detection of mild cognitive impairment and dementia across healthcare and community settings. "Nearly 30% of family caregivers reported having stopped saving and more than 20% used up their personal short-term savings as a result of caregiving," according to a report from TIAA Institute. The economic impact of caregiving is especially pronounced in women, who represent 2/3 of family caregivers - i.e. unpaid care providers. Earlier this week, the US Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee passed by unanimous vote the Reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, which is critical legislation to renew funding and strengthen services for older Americans. The legislation now moves to the US House of Representatives for a vote. Milken Institute Future of Aging is fully supportive of the passage of this important legislation.
