Christmas can be a challenging time for young single mums, which is why volunteers who can host sessions for our young people are essential. Our lovely volunteer recently came in to spread Christmas joy by making gingerbread with our members - it went down a treat 👩🍳 The activities we host cover a wide range of essential life skills, including maintaining a home, parenting, healthy relationships, budgeting, eating well, and general health and well-being. We are always seeking new classes and activities for the young ladies to benefit from, so if you think you can offer your time and experience, please get in touch today 🩵 volunteering@ymca-fg.org To find out more about the service we offer, read here https://lnkd.in/e4cei28a #YMCA #IsleofWight #motherandbabycare #singlemum #charitysupport #FairthorneGroup #Shanklin #volunteering #volunteeropportunities #youthsupport #youthmatters #volunteerwithus

❄️ As the cooler weather sets in and the holidays approach, many of us feel inspired to give back through volunteering. 📢 However, some of my patients have noticed that they prefer different types of hearing aid adjustments during these events. Did you know that hearing aids can hold specific settings for certain situations? Some hearing aid brands even automatically switch between settings, or you can manually adjust them using your phone for a more personalized experience. 🦻 Will you be volunteering this season? Let us know how we can help ensure your hearing aids are ready to support you in making a difference! 🎁 #Volunteering #HearingHealth #GiveBack #CommunitySupport #HearingAids #MakeADifference #sonorahearingcaretucson #Hear4U

Readers ask me all the time how I handle volunteering when I'm chronically ill. I've got some tips for you! Over the past decade I’ve found that as I’ve gotten sicker, I’ve struggled to find purpose and meaning in life after losing my 'healthy' body. A great number of us find satisfaction and purpose with volunteer and advocacy work. But what kinds of volunteer work are appropriate for those of us who are chronically ill? Is it possible to find volunteer work that won’t drain our already limited energy resources? The answer is yes! There are plenty of ways you can support while also keeping a firm hand on your health limitations. Do You Volunteer? I often do voluntary service and always enjoy it and get to know many amazing people. Just last week, we helped organize a space for Fundacja Kocham Dębniki an incredible initiative in collaboration with EPAM Systems. Volunteering can positively influence our well-being 🙏 According to research, "Volunteerism is a key form of community involvement that can provide both physical and mental health benefits for volunteers as well as positive outcomes for the community. However, volunteers become involved for different reasons and recent studies suggest that other-oriented volunteers may accrue greater health benefits than self-oriented volunteers" (Stukas, A. A., Hoye, R., et al., 2016). Check it out for yourself 😎 https://lnkd.in/d6gV-Yas https://lnkd.in/dMTkYx2J #Volunteering #MentalHealth #CommunityService #SocialImpact #PersonalGrowth

While a lot of people are groaning about #taxday, today is also International Microvolunteering Day! 🗓️ And that is something to celebrate! Did you know that volunteering is great for your mental health? Studies show that giving back to causes you believe in and/or helping people in your community can reduce stress, combat depression, increase self-confidence, and provide a sense of purpose. 🧠 You might not have time to volunteer for big projects, but we're sure lots of people could get involved in micro-volunteering - bite-sized volunteer tasks that only take 1-30 minutes. It's a great way to give back to your community while also taking care of your own wellbeing. Whether it's picking up litter around your neighborhood, or buying a few extra things to donate to a local food bank the next time you're headed to the grocery store, every small act of service can make a difference! 💚 Join us in celebrating International Microvolunteering Day by finding a quick and easy way to volunteer. You never know who you might impact. Little acts can have huge ripple effects! #PathwaysCounselingServices #MicroVolunteeringDay #MentalHealthMatters #Volunteer #Giveback #helpothers

"It takes a village to raise a child"—this timeless proverb speaks to the power of community. Whether you’re a foster carer, part of an organisation, or involved in your local community, we all have a role to play in supporting children in care. This communal care philosophy shaped fostering traditions long before formal systems existed, serving as a foundation for caregiving practices among Black families across the world. At BFCA, we’re exploring how fostering can be strengthened by the collective efforts of carers, organizations, and communities. How can we come together to provide the care and support that these children need? Let’s start the conversation. #BlackHistoryMonth #FosteringSupport #ItTakesAVillage #BFCA #CommunityCare"

This week is #LonelinessAwarenessWeek. Campaign to End Loneliness reports recent research showing that disabled people in the UK are more likely to feel substantially lonely (25%), compared to adults with no disability (6%). Our Listening Service was first introduced at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in March 2020 as our normal face-to-face and home visiting services had to be suspended - we wanted to give our clients reassurance that we were still there for them at the end of the phone to help if they needed it. We received very appreciative feedback from those we spoke to with quite a few commenting that we were the first agency to reach out to them. It struck us that this was a great way of keeping in touch with clients on our database so we can ascertain if they need our help again and, just as importantly, make them feel that someone out there cares. So we decided to keep it going and it is largely run today by our marvellous volunteers. If you want to find out about volunteering: 01394 387070 (don’t forget to leave a message if we don’t answer - we’ll always come back to you) or advice@daseastsuffolk.org . . #combattingloneliness #combattingisolation #lonelinessawareness #listeningservice #disabilityandloneliness #volunteering #volunteeropportunities #disabilityadvice #daseastsuffolk
