It's the end of October - but Summer Is Coming.
Keep spreading the truth, and demanding that the lords and ladies in our governments take action to protect the people from the Houses of Big Oil!

💯 Brilliant, a 4 minutes must watch on climate (in)action not only for Game of Thrones fans!!!! :
Cersei, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms:
"if those things come for us there'll be no kingdoms to rule"
The scientist:
" things? what things? what are you talking about me? us, climate scientists?"
Cersei:
"they are the true enemy!"
The scientist:
" No! science is not the true enemy don't side with big oil listen to me you've got to listen to the scientists! listen to me!"
By watching this film from Yellow Dot Studios I have also realized that perhaps a new section - ' What to watch' - should be added to our new 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. Yup great video. As an environmental scientist, as I see it, the biggest enemy is not oil (or just oil), its the human brain. Climate change, and its solutions have been clear for decades. But to act requires an extraordinary leap forward in the human brain's capability. Our lizard brain (the amygdala), makes us the Hulk in crisis like fires, floods, and car accidents, but it sucks for massive complex life ending slow crisis. For that the only survival tool we use is migration. Guess this is why billionaires want to go to Mars. To tackle climate change, we try to use our cerebral cortex (learning, problem solving). Unfortunately this part of our brain is a big energy hog and our body prefers to use it sparingly. So the question is, how do we trick our lizard brain, mine, yours, the oil exec's, - e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e-s to see climate change as an immediate threat requiring us to act as if our very survival depended on it. Should be simple, but its not. In fact my lizard brain is thinking about dinner, getting some work done, my vacation on a fuel guzzling jet plane, and googling best places to move as the climate changes ...... So instead of scientists, can the marketers and campaigners get working on this -you guys have done wonders with our lizard brains - getting us to fear things, buy things, love things, believe in all sorts of things.

What Can One Individual Really Do for Climate Change?
As a mother, the climate crisis has become intensely personal.
My 14-month-old son’s future brings urgency to issues that once felt distant. The scale of the problem can feel overwhelming, and sometimes I wonder what one individual can truly achieve.
But I’m more committed to this than anything else in my life, and I know that every small step toward sustainability matters.
One big challenge is that if you’re not already interested, it’s easy to overlook environmental issues.
My question these days is:
How can we raise awareness to create a collective change?
I believe that as more people understand the urgency, we’ll see a wave of meaningful actions.
Watching this video left me reflecting on so much.
As a big fan of Game of Thrones, this brilliantly reimagined clip is impactful and thought-provoking. It’s a shame the ending isn’t a happy one, how I hope that the reality we face can have a better ending than what’s shown. 🌍

🔄 Storytelling for Climate Action 🌍🎬
Thanks to Carl Bärstad for sharing this! Adam McKay’s work is a prime example of how storytelling—and humor—can drive climate awareness and action. Films like Don’t Look Up make complex, urgent issues accessible and relatable, using satire to connect with audiences on a deeper level and spark conversations that inspire people to care and, most importantly, to act.
As we face a rapidly changing climate, the power of media to inform and influence has never been more essential. When we tell the story of climate change in ways that connect deeply, even with humor, we’re laying the groundwork for meaningful change.
Hats off to creators like McKay for using their platforms to bring this critical issue into the spotlight!

Controversial point #1 of this post: I’m not a Game of Thrones fan. BUT, nevertheless, I think this is brilliant.
Controversial point #2: climate change is not ‘another bad joke’, it is in fact serious, as John Snow kindly points out.
Alarmingly, as things stand THE EARTH IS ON TRACK TO HIT UP TO 3.1 DEGREES CELCIUS OF WARMING BY 2100 according to the UN Emissions Gap Report 2024, released just this month. For the children of our planet, that is within their lifetime.
3oC of warming… it might not sound like a lot to you, but geological records suggest that just a 1-2oC drop in global average temperatures in the past was enough to send Earth into the Little Ice Age. This time, we’re headed for an inferno 🔥 described as “catastrophic” by the UN.
We all have the opportunity to do something about this, but it takes a (global) village. We can put pressure on our governments, leaders, business to do significantly better. We can make changes to our daily actions, using and buying only what we need, and diverting our money away from fossil fuel funding, which can be extremely impactful. Have you ever looked at how your bank invests your money!? 💷You might be shocked.
There is a chance we can still avoid the worst impacts of climate change becoming a reality, but much bolder actions are needed, and quick!! 🏃♀️
And for those in America who care even the slightest about preserving the future of this planet 🌏, for goodness sake don’t vote for Trump…

It's not that we don't know better...
The issue of climate triggers us on deep psychological levels.
As my colleague Renee Lertzman, PhD has been pointing out, it is key to address people's anxieties, ambivalences and aspirations instead of shouting the obvious at them.
If we want people to act, we have to first create the space for listening, for processing, for all that complex existential psychology.
We need Guides to support that process. People who have been trained to attune and deeply connect with people and create those spaces. Fortunately, that can be learned.
At LUMAN we are working with Renee to create cohort based trainings for sustainability leaders and people who care deeply about our future to learn these skills.
If you want to bring that to your organization, connect with me and let's talk about how we can create the future together.

As someone from the global south, this is yet another reminder of the smug lack of self awareness that comes from the “green” political class in the west.
As if countries like South Africa, where 86% of the grid is coal powered and economic inequality is among the worst in the entire world, are refusing to adopt renewables because their leaders are greedy. And not because the country would immediately descend into chaotic violence if the primary source of energy generation (and indirectly, economic participation for the masses) was banned overnight.
It’s also telling that instead of focusing on the huge financing gaps that coubtries like South Africa face to mass deploy renewables, and how US, Canadian and European investors apply ridiculous risk premiums “because Africa” that make projects unviable, they just hammer home the “Big Oil is evil” message and then cry about people being “too dumb” to get it.
I challenge any one from these groups to put their actual money where their mouths are. Africa has a $200B energy infrastructure financing gap. Instead of crying and pointing at Big Oil, how about you direct funds with non abusive terms to the huge number of firms actually building a new renewable electricity grid paradigm in developing countries? That would be way more effective than just continuing to broadcast your so called intellectual superiority over the rest of us, or trying to dictate policy in other countries while continuing to emit multiples more CO2 per capita in your own home than people in those countries (that’s a hint at the lack of personal accountability inherent in the Green position about Big Oil).
