This kind of circularity should be obvious.
If you work or live by a University, you know how Move Out can kind of break your heart. But this year we did things differently… With the help of a great team of students and campus + community volunteers, this is ALL THE STUFF we saved from landfill at Illinois State University Move Out this year! Everything will be stored, sorted, and cleaned over the summer - then will be given back to incoming students for free during Summer Preview & at our big Front Yard Free Cycle this fall. This was one heavy lift: months of planning, then 10 straight days of collecting, transporting, and unloading moving trucks. (and of course some dumpster diving) We are exhausted, sore, and a little bruised up…but we did it! *Not seen: 600+ mattress toppers delivered to Kern Mattress for recycling into upholstery filler, hundreds of pounds of food delivered to the School Street Food Pantry, numerous tarps & sleeping bags dropped off at Home Sweet Home Mission homeless shelter, and about 20 pairs of crutches given to LIFE CIL.

7moI have a friend who spent hours dumpster diving after a college move out day and they saved so much perfectly good packaged foods. They kept some for themselves and took the rest to a local shelter. It's so good to see all of this get a second life!
