A national animal welfare nonprofit bringing animals from crisis to care and strengthening the human-animal bond.
About us
Established in 1987, RedRover (formerly United Animal Nations) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Sacramento, California, that serves the US and Canada. It is funded solely by private donations and grants and does not receive government funding. MISSION: The mission of RedRover is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the human-animal bond through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance and education. RedRover accomplishes its mission by engaging volunteers and supporters, collaborating with others and maximizing technology. HISTORY: UAN was founded in 1987 by a small group who wanted to help animals. The efforts focused on animals left behind during natural disasters, providing financial assistance for emergency care, offering support for local animal advocates, and rescuing animals from deadly show fights. In 2011, UAN changed its name to RedRover to better reflect their work. Red was an already important and active color in the organization, representing strength, determination and passion, and the name RedRover captured the energy, dedication and tireless work of the organization, volunteers, supporters and donors. The programs have since been streamlined to RedRover Responders, RedRover Relief and RedRover Readers. REDROVER RESPONDERS Shelters and cares for animals displaced by natural disasters and helps reconnect them. Additionally, cares for animals rescued from criminal seizures, hoarding cases, and puppy mill cases. REDROVER RELIEF Provides financial assistance, resources and support to pet owners to help them care for animals in life-threatening situations. Resources are also available to help domestic violence survivors escape abuse with their pets. REDROVER READERS Created to prevent animal abuse by helping educators teach kids the three steps to empathy: recognize emotional states, share emotional states and regulate emotions to make better decisions about how to treat people and animals.

One more domestic violence shelter is equipped to take in the pets of survivors after a visit from Greater Good Charities' Rescue Rebuild team and RedRover! In Baton Rouge, our teams spent a week at Iris Domestic Violence Center adding play yards, kennels, functional pet furniture, cat enrichment and more. There will now be 10 designated rooms with pet accommodations at the shelter! We're working toward the goal of making 25% of domestic violence shelters pet friendly by the end of 2025. So excited to share Banfield Foundation and Banfield Pet Hospital partnered together to host its first-ever ‘Banfield Gives Back’ volunteer weekend on Navajo Nation in Farmington, New Mexico in late October. Ten Banfield volunteers worked side-by-side with our nonprofit partners at Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab- Moab, UT and RedRover to make a measurable difference in under-resourced communities by providing critical veterinary services – including spay/neuter – for 729 owned and community animals as well as “unchaining” resources (expanded enclosures, provide dog houses, food and enrichment items) for 32 loved dogs living on chains their entire lives. #banfieldfoundation also provided enough pet food to feed 700 owned pets who otherwise struggle to find enough regular food. 📸 This is what full circle, comprehensive care looks like! In communities across Najavo Nation, we know this work goes beyond just improving the lives of individual pets…by providing access to preventive care and safe living environments, we strengthened the bond between pets and their families and ensure they have the resources to thrive as a family unit. 729 THANK YOUs to our volunteers from #banfieldpethospital, our nonprofit partners, and donors like YOU who help fund this work and provide us increased opportunities to help make #abetterworldforpets 💪🧡🙌👏 #banfieldlife #banfieldgivesback #endingpethomelessness #proudlymars Jam (Bagwanedee) Stewart, Ellen Coyle, Kayla Peters, Laura Russey, DVM + Trevor Hanley-Stimson
