In this project, we were tasked with surveying the entirety of the site, paying particular attention to a pond and the outline of a garage in preparation for an extension application. By focusing on accurate measurements, we ensured that every detail was covered. Here's a problem I had in one of my recent maps, which I created using Local Scene in ArcGIS Pro, and I wonder if one of you smart people out there can help me figure out if it can be solved: The landscape appears to be upside down in some areas (see inside that red circle). I assume this has to do with the satellite photo I used and how that photo was taken from an oblique angle that is opposite to the angle I have used for my 3D map. How many decimal places are enough when recording latitude and longitude? The answer is, as usual, "it depends". Maybe you really are trying to point out individual pinecones, grains of sand, or molecules - who am I to judge? But it helps to know how big "1" is before you start dividing it by 10, 1000, or 1000000000 . Here's a little map/graphic to show just how long one degree of longitude is, and a bit on why degrees of latitude and longitude are usually different lengths.
