Shopping. Everyone does it, not everyone likes it. But behind the shopping for clothes are different processes that are often invisible to us. In addition to production and cultivation of raw materials, recycling is also an important aspect. Textile sorting is part of this recycling process and crucial in the clothing industry for several reasons. But there is a big issue with this process: Textile sorting is currently still very labor-intensive, error-prone, and inefficient. And this is where startup Redivivum comes in: “Our idea is simple yet impactful: To automate garment evaluation and sorting processes, addressing critical challenges such as labor shortages, inefficiencies, and the increasing volumes of textile waste. We are on a mission to revolutionize the textile industry through our innovative automation solutions.” The two founders, Szilvia Turi and Aron Siska have not only diverse backgrounds in engineering, software development, and sustainability but are also united by a shared vision of driving positive change in the textile industry. As one of 8 startups in the 7-month startup accelerator program, Redivivum appreciated the most all the resources and support from the community, as well as the access to mentorship sessions, like the one with Fernando. “Such a piece of advice you can’t find in a textbook!” Their biggest learning in the program? The importance of market validation, good feedback and strong resilient relationships. After the program the Redivivum team will continue their journey to turn their big vision into reality. “Our dream is to shake up the textile industry by making automated garment sorting the new norm. Picture a world where textile companies everywhere are using Redivivum's technology to work smarter, waste less, and do their bit for the planet. Currently, only 7% of the world’s resources are recycled within the circular economy, a figure that's declined since 2018 due to rising material extraction. 🔃 👕 Enter Faircado. Faircado has closed a €3M pre-seed funding round to revolutionise second-hand shopping with AI. Faircado’s AI-powered browser extension uses a combination of image and text matching to suggest pre-owned alternatives when you look for a product on sites like Amazon, Zalando or Patagonia. The company’s revenue model combines a percentage commission on sales with fixed fees for redirecting users to partner platforms. The pre-seed round was led by World Fund, Europe’s leading climate venture capital firm. The round also includes investment from Accel, General Catalyst, Lightspeed, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), and Northzone via the Slush 100 Startup Prize, as well as Impact Shakers.
