This election year, our Network is collectively pushing policies that will advance educational and economic opportunities for young people of color. Meet EdLoC member and CEO of Families in Action for Quality Education (FIA) Kimi Kean. Through their voter education and mobilization efforts, FIA is empowering parents and youth to engage in elections and drive change in their local education system. "Our power-building institutes are a key part of our strategy," explains Kimi. "We focus on developing leadership, connecting with personal power, and learning organizing skills. This empowers our community to deconstruct power dynamics in public education." She also emphasizes the importance of meaningful civic engagement for youth and how it nurtures lifetime voters, noting that 80% of those who start voting by age 20 continue to vote their entire lives. We're eager to support our Network with the practical tools and insights to make a meaningful impact like this during this pivotal election year. If you're an EdLoC member, recordings of our Elections 2024 series and our Elections Toolkit are available now in EdLoC Connect. #WeAreEdLoC #EdLoCElections2024 #Elections2024

Ensuring young people are prepared and enthusiastic about participating in the next general election is crucial for the health of our democracy. To achieve this, Youth Focus: North East will empower our staff to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to the young people we work with, enabling them to become informed and active voters. We have already, through our funded education work by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, continue to implement comprehensive educational programmes that cover the fundamentals of our electoral system, the importance of voting, and how each vote can impact their community and country. Additionally, Youth Focus: North East will create resources such as voter guides, FAQs, and tools to help young voters navigate the voting process. Our staff will offer guidance on these resources, ensuring they are easily accessible and user-friendly. Engagement will also be a key focus. We will encourage discussions and debates on current political issues, both in person and through social media platforms, to stimulate interest and foster a deeper understanding of the political landscape. By providing young people with the skills and knowledge to vote, we not only enhance their civic engagement but also strengthen our democratic foundations. Let’s work together to ensure the next generation is well-prepared and motivated to make their voices heard in the next general election. #youthstartshere #generalelection2024 #youngvoters

Many talk about our work in homelessness solutions as “giving voice to the voiceless.” I say that’s nonsense. Our clients have voices. Our unhoused neighbors have opinions and ideas as varied as anyone’s - it’s not our job to speak for them. It’s our job to clear the barriers for their own voices to be heard. Make sure yours is heard too. Get loud about your passions. Engage. Amplify. And most importantly, VOTE. Vote like your life depends on it - some lives do.
Keys to Change is proud to work with volunteers and organizers to help get out the vote. Partnerships with Nonprofit VOTE, League of Women Voters, and Arizona State University have been instrumental. We encourage our clients to get involved in the voting process, which includes dispelling common myths and breaking down harmful misinformation. We want people to make their voices heard and cast a vote for the leaders and policies that make a difference in their lives. We are fortunate to have our amazing ASU interns leading the charge on Key Campus with #VoterRegistration and #RightsRestoration tabling events at the The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix diner, Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) dayroom, Key Campus courtyard and Respiro. Setting up at various times and locations to ensure maximum reach, ASU interns registered 26 clients to vote through this process. The voter rights restoration conversations were especially powerful – with many clients believing that their criminal records disqualified them from voting, when in reality that was not the case for so many of them. We hope to continue to work with ASU and hold future events for ballot education and encourage clients to turn in their ballots, as the majority will be receiving their ballots in the mail right here at our postal service at Key Campus. Through this project, many clients expressed their joy of knowing they were able to vote when they thought they never could again! Exercise your right to vote. Let your voice be heard. 🗳 https://lnkd.in/gg-N9Yau #EndHomelessness #AffordableHousing #RepresentationMatters #YourVoteMatters #YourVoiceMatters #ParticipateInDemocracy #Vote #Vote2024

Voting is more than just a civic duty—it's a powerful way for individuals to shape the future of their communities, countries, and the world. Here are a few reasons why every eligible voter should exercise their right: 1. **Voice Your Opinion:** Voting is your opportunity to voice your opinion on the issues that matter most to you. Whether it’s healthcare, education, or the economy, your vote influences decisions that affect your daily life. 2. **Support Democracy:** A healthy democracy depends on active participation. When more people vote, it ensures that the government reflects the true will of the people. Every vote contributes to a more representative and fair political system. 3. **Create Change:** Voting is a powerful tool for change. Throughout history, elections have been the catalyst for significant societal shifts. By voting, you help shape policies and leadership that align with your values and vision for the future. 4. **Honor the Struggle:** Many have fought and continue to fight for the right to vote. By participating in elections, we honor their sacrifices and uphold the principles of equality and justice. 5. **Accountability:** Voting holds leaders accountable. It sends a clear message that citizens are engaged and expect their representatives to act in their best interests. It ensures transparency and responsiveness in governance. Remember, your vote is your voice. Make sure it is heard. Participate in every election and contribute to the ongoing process of building a better society. #vote #democracy #civicduty #makeyourvoiceheard

The 2024 United States elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. As we reflect on the January 6, 2021, violent attack by a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump, two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, it's clear that civic education is more important than ever. Founder of OjoOido.com, Joseph N. Velasquez, Esq., believes that educating our children and young people on informed, critical thinking and the responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy is critical. As the late Congressman John Lewis said, "Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part." It's time to recommit our support to America's public school system and their critical role in teaching civic engagement. By instilling the values of lawful democratic participation, critical thinking, and rejecting bigotry, we can create a society that values each person and works towards the collective good. Let's work together to ensure that the next generation is equipped with the values and tools they need to continue our democracy. #CivicEngagement #CivicEducation #CivicDuty #election2024
