🚀 Energy storage: A milestone for calcium-oxygen batteries 🔋 #TUBraunschweig and its partners have taken an important step towards pioneering #battery concepts as part of the 'CaSaBatt' research project (Prof. Daniel Schröder)! Researchers have successfully tested the cell design and optimised electrolytes for calcium-oxygen batteries (CASB) in the laboratory. ⚡ The calcium-oxygen battery is emerging as a promising energy storage system. These innovative batteries offer 2.5 times the storage capacity of conventional lithium-ion batteries. The main objective of the project is to develop for the first time an electrically rechargeable CASB at laboratory scale (demonstrator). The results could form the basis for the development of next-generation rechargeable batteries for the consumer market, as well as for low-cost, large-scale energy storage. ℹ️ The ‘CaSaBatt’ project is funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung with a total of around 1.37 million euros. In addition to TU Braunschweig, the project partners are the Universität Münster, the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), the Fraunhofer IFAM and IoLiTec Ionic Liquids Technologies GmbH. 🔍 Today spotlight on Project #2: FLEXnCONFU! 🌱As part of our ongoing series highlighting the groundbreaking EC-funded projects ETN Global is involved in, today we’re focusing on FLEXnCONFU. 🎯 The main goal of FLEXnCONFU is to develop and demonstrate an innovative, economically viable Power-to-X-to-Power (P2X2P) solution. This project is all about #flexibility: it enables Combined Cycle (CC) power plants to convert surplus #renewableenergy into #hydrogen or #ammonia and then convert it back to power as needed. This approach not only stabilizes power plant loads but also supports the EU’s ambitious climate goals by drastically reducing CO/CO2 emissions. 🔋 The project will be demonstrated up to TRL 7, showcasing a Power-to-Hydrogen system in a real operational environment at EDP’s Ribatejo power plant and testing #ammonia combustion in a gas turbine at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd. 🎥 Curious to learn more?
