About us
FLEXnCONFU - FLEXibilize combined cycle power plant through Power-to-X solutions using CONventional fuels is a research project funded by Horizon2020 EU’s research and innovation programme (GA 884157), with the goal to develop and demonstrate innovative, economically viable and replicable Power-to-X-to-Power (P2X2P) solutions that combines all available options for the effective and flexible use of surplus power from renewable energies to leveling the power plant load convert electricity into hydrogen or ammonia prior to converting it back to power. This will enable the design and operation of an integrated power plant layout that can un-tap additional Combined Cycle plants flexibility.

As a first post for 2025, our Consortium is delighted to share with you a new journal article related to FLEXnCONFU! ✨ The article - entitled "Numerical investigation of the NOX emissions of a perfectly premixed NH3-H2 flame at moderate pressure levels" - is now available online! ⬇️ This paper is the result of a collaborative effort of project partners Baker Hughes and Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, who cooperated with Università degli Studi di Firenze 🤝 #FLEXnCONFU #h2020 #journal #articles #dissemination
As one of the outcomes of the collaboration with Baker Hughes supported by the doctoral research of Simone Castellani and the outstanding contribution of Roberto Meloni, I’m trilled to announce our latest paper on CFD modelling of ammonia combustion in gas turbines. The paper focuses on the role of pressure on nitric oxides formation in perfectly premixed NH3-H2 flames. High-fidelity CFD calculations are supported by experimental data provided by Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd as exploitation of the FLEXnCONFU H2020 project.
