Bit of a change of pace to my normal transportation and logistics based posts. I’d like to do something a bit different to highlight the great people that I both have worked with or currently work with. I guess we can chalk it up to Thanksgiving week, but I’ve been contemplating this for a while. I think we can use this platform for a more powerful purpose. One of uplifting and showcasing the people we spend 40-60 hours with each week, building and executing while we try to provide for ourselves and our families. It may catch on. It may not. I’ll be consistent with it though, I can promise you that. Feel free to unfollow, mute, or remove the connection if you disagree with this mission of mine. Current teammate: I have to go with my man Glen Stewart. The guy I’ve spent so much time with since I started at Wabash. A big reason why I work at Wabash today actually. The guy doesn’t know anything other than good energy and execution. Glen has been an incredible thought partner for me as I’ve transitioned into a new role over the last month and is a bit of counter balance to my thought process and how I go about my day - forcing me to think a little differently. Anyone that knows Glen only has fantastic things to say about him and he’s a great example of a strategic operational leader who is an even better person. Give me guys like Glen Stewart on my team all day long and I like our chances no matter what it is we are trying to accomplish. Former teammate: So many top-notch people I can go with, but I’ll lead off with Brea Figura Raines. I had the pleasure of working alongside Brea at REPOWR, and I was so impressed with her drive and determination to win while helping the rest of the team. REPOWR’s visibility across the logistics space exploded after Brea came on and that’s not a coincidence. The other thing I like about Brea is that she’s a direct communicator, which is exactly how I am. Direct, but professional and respectful. Exactly what I believe society as a whole needs to adopt some more. Brea will continue to be great at whatever she chooses to do. Zero doubt in my mind. “Alea iacta est” meaning “The die is cast” is a quote from Julius Caesar. Another of his lines is “Well done is quickly done.” My version of this is “No Messing Around.” Set a deadline that everyone knows, and make it happen. I can tell you it’s not always like that; flawed as I am, I can prevaricate as much as anyone else. However, that is the best way to get things done. If you are on a football team and want to win the championship, you don’t mind what hours or days of the week you work. Modern employment laws often rule against that, creating a culture where people miss out on the excitement of winning a war. Build golden bridges, go around stone walls, and make an exciting culture of like-minded people intent on their goals. Amazing things happen when you allow individuals to do things their way, not always yours. That’s my formula. Everyone is different, but finding the right individuals, encouraging them, and showing the way by doing more for them than they’d ever expect is crucial. Pull your own weight and let those who don’t work go as soon as you realise it; mostly, people don’t change.

Proven winners rely on one simple trait: Resiliency The great Rocky Balboa once said: “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” Early in my career, I struggled to overcome setbacks. Here’s an example: My first assignment was a 10,000 SF industrial tenant lease requirement. Multiple tours, dozens of buildings, finally we found a perfect fit. After months of negotiating, the landlord requested proof of the tenant’s revenue. The tenant (my client) refused to provide. Immediately, the deal caved. I started to question the assignment. My senior broker said, “They will find a space with or without you." After a year of persevering, I had closed my first deal. Tip: To grow resiliency, face adversity in small doses through exercise.
