I have spoken to many hiring managers overs the years who say they are unable to secure contract resources in their Dynamics Business Central projects. To many businesses are leaving the hiring process far too late and are frustrated when they cannot secure the candidates they require. Why You Should Plan Early for Resourcing Your Business Central Projects? Planning early for resourcing your Business Central projects with contractors is crucial for several reasons: High Demand: The demand for skilled Dynamics Business Central contractors is high, making it challenging to find the right talent at the last minute. Better Candidate Pool: Starting early, ideally 3-6 months before you need the resource, allows you to access a wider pool of candidates. This includes those who may be midway through another contract and can become available just in time (JIT) to start your project. Thorough Vetting: Early planning provides ample time for a thorough vetting process, ensuring you select reliable and highly qualified contractors. Smooth Onboarding: With more time, you can ensure a smoother onboarding process, facilitating better integration of contractors into your project team. Securing Contracts: Starting the search early means you can get contracts signed in advance, securing your resources and avoiding last-minute scrambles. Project Success: Proper planning reduces the risk of delays and setbacks, leading to more successful project outcomes. In summary, fail to plan, plan to fail. Start looking for contractors 3-6 months before you need them to ensure you secure the right talent and guarantee the success of your Business Central projects. Resource Management Note: In this section, I share insights derived from academic studies and practical experiences in project management. These ideas are rooted in established methodologies and enriched by real-world applications, providing a balanced perspective on effective project management practices. To effectively manage the project/s, the project manager needs to be aware of the processes and procedures associated with resource management. Resource management involves regulations and processes that affect hiring and firing, labor relations, career path management, and how to work with people on good terms. The project manager should learn what specific requirements the organization has for: 1. Recruiting. 2. Interviewing. 3. Selection processes. 4. Hiring Processes. 5. Separation processes: resignations, terminations, and layoffs. 6. Labor relations processes: contract terms, grievance procedures. 7. Compensation available. 8. Career paths and training available in the organizations. 9. Regulatory requirements for your state (province) and area. A key aspect of resource management is ensuring that adequate resources are available during all the phases of the project/s and maintenance (if it is stated in the contract) after that. This includes securing individuals with the necessary technical expertise and other relevant skills. When resource gaps are identified, it is essential and normal for the project manager to request additional resources to meet project obligations. Failure to address these resource needs can result in the organization falling short of its commitments, leading to client dissatisfaction and potential business loss. Therefore, a proactive approach to resource management is vital for maintaining client trust and ensuring the long-term success of both the project and the organization. Disclosure: While I typically avoid using the term "resources" to describe the team I work with, I am using it here solely for clarity and understanding. Thank you. #projectmanagement #management #bestadvice

3 common myths about using contractors for your IT Transformation DEBUNKED 😊 #1 Contractors are less invested in the project's success. Experienced contractors understand the importance of project success for their reputation and future contracts. They should therefore be just as committed to the project as a permanent member of staff. #2 Contractors are always more expensive than in-house teams. Upfront costs may seem higher, but contractors can actually be more cost-effective in the long run. You avoid the cost of hiring and training permanent staff for specialist tasks and contractors bring their own tools and resources, minimising additional spend. #3 Contractors disrupt existing team dynamics. As long as you have effective project management, the relationship between contractors and the internal team should be collaborative and communicative. Contractors often bring specialist skills and a fresh perspective, helping knowledge transfer and innovation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you want to find out more about hiring contractors?
