I have spoken to many hiring managers overs the years who say they are unable to secure contract resources in their Dynamics Business Central projects. To many businesses are leaving the hiring process far too late and are frustrated when they cannot secure the candidates they require. Why You Should Plan Early for Resourcing Your Business Central Projects? Planning early for resourcing your Business Central projects with contractors is crucial for several reasons: High Demand: The demand for skilled Dynamics Business Central contractors is high, making it challenging to find the right talent at the last minute. Better Candidate Pool: Starting early, ideally 3-6 months before you need the resource, allows you to access a wider pool of candidates. This includes those who may be midway through another contract and can become available just in time (JIT) to start your project. Thorough Vetting: Early planning provides ample time for a thorough vetting process, ensuring you select reliable and highly qualified contractors. Smooth Onboarding: With more time, you can ensure a smoother onboarding process, facilitating better integration of contractors into your project team. Securing Contracts: Starting the search early means you can get contracts signed in advance, securing your resources and avoiding last-minute scrambles. Project Success: Proper planning reduces the risk of delays and setbacks, leading to more successful project outcomes. In summary, fail to plan, plan to fail. Start looking for contractors 3-6 months before you need them to ensure you secure the right talent and guarantee the success of your Business Central projects. I recently had an old client tell me how much money they had saved by not using agencies in the last four years... It was an interesting viewpoint, as the consultancy in question had been forced to make two rounds of redundancies this year alone. Having worked with this client almost exclusively for five years prior to their decision to build an internal talent team, I'm incredibly well-connected within that organisation. Let me share some of my observations of that company and the feedback from their team: ❌ The calibre of the engineers they hired has significantly decreased. Rather than attracting and retaining top talent from their core competitors, they started to hire candidates from companies delivering much smaller and much less complicated projects. ❌ Time taken to fill vacancies increased significantly. They had a vacant senior engineer role for two years that they could not fill. ❌ The slow but steady dilution in the quality of candidates they hired required significantly more investment from the discipline leaders from a training perspective, adding more stress and pressure to an already stretched management group. ❌ The inexperience of newly joined staff led to issues with the design that were not always picked up through QA and contributed towards an increase in variations at the construction phase of their projects. ❌ Project leaders responsible for fronting up and facing clients became increasingly weary and disillusioned by both the level of service and engineering they were providing clients. ❌ Under-resourcing on projects and the inability to attract top engineers to their team saw an exodus of project leaders. ❌ The departure of project leaders saw clients follow individuals to their competitors, in turn significantly impacting forward workload. ❌ Downturn in workload and profitability led to decisions taken at a corporate level to make redundancies, focused on staff who are not billable to projects. This saw the departure of some of their biggest contributors from a business development perspective. In the space of four years, this company’s standing in the industry has shifted significantly at a time when often having the best people is a company’s biggest differentiator. While recruitment costs may have decreased on their balance sheet, the cost to the business has been enormous. I count myself lucky to have worked with some fantastic talent acquisition teams during my twelve years in the building services space. One thing I can say for certain is that if you take a hard look at the industry’s top consultancies with the best reputations, they all have an attraction strategy that strikes a balance between internal recruitment and partnering with external agencies.

3 common myths about using contractors for your IT Transformation DEBUNKED 😊 #1 Contractors are less invested in the project's success. Experienced contractors understand the importance of project success for their reputation and future contracts. They should therefore be just as committed to the project as a permanent member of staff. #2 Contractors are always more expensive than in-house teams. Upfront costs may seem higher, but contractors can actually be more cost-effective in the long run. You avoid the cost of hiring and training permanent staff for specialist tasks and contractors bring their own tools and resources, minimising additional spend. #3 Contractors disrupt existing team dynamics. As long as you have effective project management, the relationship between contractors and the internal team should be collaborative and communicative. Contractors often bring specialist skills and a fresh perspective, helping knowledge transfer and innovation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you want to find out more about hiring contractors? "What does contract management actually mean?!" "Some companies and projects don't even know they need it......" 🤷♂️ Within the international construction and infrastructure industries it means many different things to many different people 😕 The current demand for experienced contract managers is extremely high, although some candidates might not agree with this notion 📈 Maybe it's because what clients want from a contract manager can differ from business to business and region to region, with requirements becoming increasingly specific 🔎 To find the right talent companies often have to recruit external candidates and a lot of the time they struggle to fully utilise the potential already within their organisation ⛔ So what are the long-term solutions for companies to solve this challenge 🧐 One potential solution is to create an internal knowledge and training centre and develop and nuture such talent within the organisation 👩🎓 Yes, it will take a period of time for companies to fully benefit from such a project, but surely this would create the right environment and culture for success in the long run 🚀 Nabeel Khokhar shares his thoughts on this particular subject and it would be great to hear your thoughts to..... #contractmanager #contractmanagement #construction #recruitment #talent #development #training #learning
