I said this in my workshop, and I’ll say it again here.. If you’re being labelled as a btch in the workplace, there’s only two options: Either that’s true OR that’s not true. Sounds simple, yes. But we often make it more complicated. Ruminating and spiraling over why they would say this, what this means about you, how you can change their minds. Venting about it to friends & coworkers. Your partner and family. Mulling it over time and time again. But understanding the why and how, doesn’t actually support you in moving through it. Alright, friends, let me tell you about my day... buckle up! 😂 So, I’m invited to speak to a group of HR pros—my peers, people I really respect. I’m pumped, ready to share my hard-prepared presentation, and it’s all going smoothly… until it isn’t. 15 minutes before go-time, I’m setting up, and my laptop decides it’s time for a software update. Like, REALLY?! Tick, tick, tick... trying everything, running into roadblock after roadblock. And now? Two minutes left. The screen’s frozen, my slides are trapped in tech limbo, and I’m standing there with a roomful of people in front of me and another 30 tuning in online. What did I do? I RAN WITH IT. No slides, no safety net, just me, my phone (thankfully I could peek at my notes), and 40 HR pros waiting for a presentation. And you know what? I went all in! I stood up, took a deep breath, and delivered every point, every insight, every ounce of passion I’d prepped. First time in my life I’ve had to do that, and I felt every nerve. On the Skytrain back to downtown Vancouver, I couldn’t help but think, “What just happened? Is Mercury in retrograde?!” “WTH?” But you know what? I did it. And I’m saluting myself for winging it. 🙌 And here’s the best part—when I got back to my computer, there was a message waiting for me: “Great job on the presentation today. We’d love to know more about your consulting services.” How freaking cool is that?! So, here’s my question for you—what would YOU do in that situation? Have you ever had to just let go and run with it in front of a group of your peers?
