Creatives are eternally facing the struggle of finding employment in their fields of expertise — and when they do find a job that pays the bills, there's a low likelihood that it also offers stable hours, benefits, and a functional work-life balance. "Woe is you!" come the derisive, sarcastic taunts in response to complaining about our industry, along with cries of "Get a real job!" and "What did you expect?" But how would society feel without our artists? How would we preserve any joy? Do we not all enjoy the little works of art we hang on our walls — that make a house feel homey and remind us of our favorite things? Isn't a night out made better by live music or the thrilling chorus of your favorite song? Do none of us bask in the glow of an excellent book, cherish our favorite mug, wear shirts and jewelry made by talented creators? Do we not all escape into the world of a well-made film or TV show to take our minds off our own circumstances for an hour or two? I am sick of the narrative that art is somehow superfluous, even though its myriad of forms impact all of us, every day, in some small way. For the last ten years, I've been carving out time to print at Spudnik Press — to desperately maintain that tenuous yet critical connection to my art practice. For the last two years, I've been bending over backwards to help operationally support this organization in a time of rising costs and shrinking financial support. I believe artmaking is essential to human life and history, and I love Spudnik because it exists purely to empower and help people make and learn art. It provides low-cost creative space and resources to thousands of artistic people every year, and offers classes to bring those who want to join us up to speed. It's a place that makes me feel like art is still important, somewhere. Today is #GivingTuesday, and as the Press faces a particularly brutal year of tight finances, I implore you to consider the importance of art, and the real need for spaces like Spudnik that offer positive avenues for creation and community. If you're an artist who was forced to "sell out," who's reading this from the creative-adjacent office job you took because you had to, consider joining as a member, or making a donation to support our work. To support part-time artists like yourself, to support the jobs we offer our staff and teaching artists, and to show our young people that there's still value and opportunity in the arts. And if you say you're "not an artist," I don't believe you. Maybe you're not a painter, but I'm sure there's a creative discipline out there you'll enjoy. We all benefit from dedicating time to make something with our hands, just because we can. Sign up for a class to learn with us, or make a donation to support the creatives in your community. Pretend you're a Medici for a year, or a day — patronage of the arts is cool, and today's a great day to start giving back. https://lnkd.in/g_A93rCN

📣 As the peak body for visual artists, craftspeople and designers in South Australia, we call on you to join our community and help us uplift, engage and grow a state of creativity. The escalating cost of living is not just a financial issue; it's a threat to artists’ ability to sustain their creative practice and careers, putting at risk the very creativity that underpins our state. 💝 Uplift 💝 By supporting us, you can directly contribute to uplifting artists' income. Artists currently earn about a quarter less than the average income of the wider workforce. Last year, we provided 4,043 advice and tailored career uplifts for creatives. With your support, we can expand our programs to offer more paid opportunities for artists to showcase their practice, expand, their audiences and increase their ongoing earning potential. ⭐ Engage ⭐ Your donation will enable us to further invest in our creative and professional skills development offerings, which support artists' thriving careers. From essentials such as low-cost public liability insurance and one-on-one professional advice to ambitious residencies, exhibitions, and mentorships, Guildhouse works with professional creatives at all stages of their careers. Your donation will support them in taking risks, creating excellent work, and ultimately achieving their goals. 🌱 Grow 🌱 We are committed to creating paid opportunities for artists at all stages of their careers. Within our programs last year we reached over 600,000 local, national and global audiences showcasing South Australian artists. Fair remuneration for artists underscores everything we do. Your donation will go towards directly to paying artists' fees. Your donation to support Guildhouse is a direct investment in artists. DONATE TODAY: https://lnkd.in/gSasRyVR All donations above $2 are Tax Deductable. By donating $1000 and above to this campaign, you'll join the Guildhouse Donor Circle, which will open a world of art, events and connection to our organisation. OneCause sent me a recent Podcast that they did with my client Steven Cole of Veterans Bridge Home where Steve said some kind things about me as his auctioneer. You can listen to learn about VBH here, but I added the transcript of that section below: Dawn Lynn Lego, CMP - So are you about to tell us how we got there? ($1,000,000 raised at the event) Steve Cole - So right. So one, we hired a professional auctioneer. We've used him, Dan Lyles, for the last, uh.. Dawn Lego, OneCause - Shout out to Dan. Who is that? Steve Cole - Dan Lyles. And I'll make sure we've got you his business card because he's worth it. You can't have him on May 17, 2025, because he's ours. Dawn Lego, OneCause - Okay. He's got his dance card full on May 17, 2025. Steve Cole - But otherwise, you're welcome to him. And he's great. What I really appreciated about Dan, as a professional auctioneer, is that he is not afraid to give his opinion about how he thinks things should work. DanLylesAuctions.com, L, Y, L, E, S, Dan Lyles. All one word. He's not afraid to give his opinion. Like, hey. I think you should do this. I think you should, you know, don't have more than eight live auction items. Don't use the fifty-thousand-dollar challenge pledge until we get to the paddle raise at a thousand dollars. So, his willingness to be an expert in the things that he's expert in is what I think, I appreciate most about him.

➡️ 25% of the population in the UK are 'Content Creators’ ➡️ The creator economy is expected to continue growing. The total addressable market is projected to double over the next five years to $480 billion by 2027 from $250 billion today. ➡️ There's a direct link between content and ROI. That’s what’s driving the emergence of the latest iteration of content studios. ➡️ The UK needs extra 2.6m sq ft of studio space by 2028 to meet growing demand We’re currently fundraising for Haus of Hutch, our unique content studio based in Battersea, London. With a fresh, innovative approach, we rotate our studio furniture and props every three months, giving our clients a constantly refreshed and inspiring environment for their shoots. This ever-evolving space keeps creatives coming back, always finding something new to bring their shoots to life. In a breakout session organised by thinkingplace #Chesterfield #pizzazz24 on telling your place narrative using visual methods. A good example is Newhaven’s Look Again Supergraphics Festival https://lnkd.in/e4iWk9Q8 A few useful pointers for Institute of Place Management members: 1) Create a visual language to illustrate your place story - a set of graphics, fonts, colours, messages for people to use and share - co-create this (important!) 2) How does the place story affect environment/products/behaviour and communications e.g. train your taxi-drivers to tell stories when they pick up visitors from the airport or train station 3) Get stakeholders together who might tell your story - and provide tools for them to use 4) Think about multiple channels - story reels, bill boards, signage, events, underused sites and premises - target everyday spots used by regular and occasional visitors - not all litter bins and wayfinding need be municipal green or grey - use colour

𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙀𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 2012 𝙩𝙤 2024 My 1st design project came about when my friends wanted to start a charity called "Hugs Charity". The only tool I had back then was MS Paint—I mostly used my PC for gaming at the time 😅. With no formal design knowledge, I sketched out their logo with what I now know was a 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵. Today, I've transitioned from MS Paint to Illustrator, from reference articles to MidJourney, and continue to stay ahead with the latest creative tools. This evolution in tools has shaped me into not just a designer, but a creator and executor. I truly believe that 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲—whether we're awake or dreaming. But what sets creators apart is our ability to act on those ideas, using the right tools and technology to bring them to life. Because at the end of the day, "𝗔𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵." What's your thought on this? charityfashionshow.org is for unknown but promising artists. "charityfashionshow.org" paints a vivid picture: volunteer models gliding down a runway, showcasing the latest trends from designers. But here, charityfashionshow.org takes on a deeper meaning. It becomes a platform for dreams – not just for aspiring models or designers, but for the beneficiaries of the charity. The clothes become more than fabric; they become symbols of hope, a promise that a better tomorrow awaits. The meticulously listed statutes of the California Labor Code, section 1702.4(b), (1) and (2) and section 1720.4(a), (1) and (2) – might seem like dry legalese. However, they speak volumes about a 501(c)(3) organization's values and the specific references add a surprising layer of detail. These codes pertain to the protection of volunteer workers and the ethical treatment of volunteer artists involved in the fashion show, whether they be models, designers, or individual staff members, in the non-commercial aspects of the entertainment industry. This laser focus on applicable labor law suggests an 501(c)(3) organization's committed to give vocational guidance, employment counseling, and assistance in placement, a stark contrast to the exploitative practices sometimes associated with the fashion world and for profit producers. It demonstrates a commitment to ethical practices, ensuring that the pursuit of producing charityafashionshow.org as a fundraiser doesn't come at the expense of human dignity. The enigmatic phrase "for unknown but promising artists" is brimming with potential. It implies a willingness to embrace and showcase unconventional forms of artistic expression within the framework of a production. It could be spoken word poetry woven into the presentation, it could be dance performances intermingling with the models, or even innovative uses of technology and light to elevate the experience. The possibilities are boundless, limited only by the imagination of the creative minds behind this project lead by the executive producer, Rauhmel Fox. charityfashionshow.org transcends the typical charity event. It fosters dreams, promotes ethical practices, and offers a platform for groundbreaking artistic expression.
