EV Charging Communication in the form of the Combined Charging System (CCS) is a core enabling technology for fast charging EVs as well as for future smart grid integration. Its interoperability is key for user acceptance and economies of scale, but at the same time a major technical challenge due to the huge number of different implementations, individual use cases and requirements on a diverse global market. The CharIN Testival embraces this challenge and brings together companies from the Smart Charging community and their technology experts to conduct conformance & interoperability tests for electric vehicles and charging infrastructures or respective Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and Communication Controllers. The future of the Hitachi train plant in Newton Aycliffe has been secured thanks to a bumper order for a new fleet of high-speed trains for all-electric Open Access operator Lumo 🚄 The Newcastle-based operator is investing in new services across the country as well as utilsing the new £500 million order to increase capacity and resilience on its popular East Coast route, which is already boosting visitor numbers to the region. https://lnkd.in/eXeAEnTz

Electric vehicles (EVs) are pivotal in the clean energy transition offering alternatives to our traditional mobility systems, introducing new inter-connections to the power grids, accelerating integration with RE, thus, promoting a more resilient and sustainable energy system, as well all know. With additional burden on our grids with growing loads as we are experiencing historical weather conditions, EVs come as a hope to cope with the rising challenges. To co-develop knowledge and expand our horizons on the possible intersections where transport/mobility meets the power system, Florence School of Regulation and FSR Global presents to you a fantastic learning opportunity through an online course (https://lnkd.in/gGnuivPU) where we co-discover the evolving landscape of EVs with an eye on the future trends which will re-shape our power flows. For 2024 edition currently underway, we have a very rich cohort of students from across the world, bridging gaps between Global North and Global South, coming together to learn and discover the knowledge gaps which lies in our respective geographies. I have the pleasure to be a Teaching Assistant along with Diego Cebreros Saettone, under the guidance of our fantastic co-Directors Swetha Ravi Kumar and Yannick Perez. It has been a wonderful learning opportunity. This edition we have re-fashioned the course to make it more representative of achieving SDG 7 via SDG 17 by bringing in a panel of experts from the world of EV spanning across the globe. We have with us Jim Yan 严吉 Damien Pierre SAINFLOU focusing on EV technologies for the future, Jaap Burger Ben Wender Gertjan Geurts focusing on policy and regulatory landscape of EVs, Antonio Bonvento Karima Boukir focusing on unlocking benefits for the power sector and Robin Berg Willett Kempton Cristina Corchero, PhD discussing the plan of action we must take for EVs. We are midway through the course with great gusto and I will be bringing to you the learnings by the end of the course.
