recently read… “We have all been taught as girls that if we work hard, the rewards will follow. That if we put in our best efforts, that that will be seen and appreciated. And that worked well for us in school and university. If we studied hard for the exam, we got a good grade. If we pushed ourselves in that school project, we were applauded for our great effort.  And then… something changed.  As we hit the workforce, we found out that this rule of effort = reward, no longer applied. Just hamsterwheelin’ every day - producing great results, getting amazing things done (and yes, getting exhausted in the process) - was no longer enough to get rewarded.  It turns out that unlike at school, in business there isn’t necessarily a direct relationship between the level of the work that you do and how much reward you receive for it. Many other factors come into play when it comes to career advancement and recognition.  If you want to have a great career, doing great work isn’t enough.  Say it with me: if you want to have a great career, you need to do great work AND HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT.  You need the right internal and external stakeholders to know what you are capable of.  They need to know who you are and what you can do for them, so that when they need that, they will think of you.  Building that visibility for you and your great work, in  a comfortable, authentic, confident way, is a key skill and practice that will ensure you will have a great career. Creating those kinds of relationships with the right people – again: comfortably, authentically, confidently – will guarantee you get rewarded for all the hard work you are doing.”

The programs enhance workforce skills and loyalty, reduce turnover, upskill in-house talent, and allow employees to gain college degrees more affordably and quickly. #ICYMI: Walmart is highlighted in this recent NPR article along with other major employers for partnering with colleges to award credit for workplace training programs, paving the way for workers to earn college degrees faster and at lower costs. Walmart has over a dozen short-form certificates and 25 training courses — in tech, leadership, digital operations — that translate to credit at partner universities. The car-service chain Jiffy Lube has its own college credit program, too. These programs will benefit the employer, higher ed institutions, and employee-learners as Amber Garrison Duncan, C-BEN Executive VP & COO adds, “For adults who feel like they weren’t college material, what we are able to do is say, "You are. And you’re doing college-level work already." We’re thrilled to see companies like Walmart and McDonald’s take such significant strides in the skills-based movement. Kicking off this week with a trip to school to talk to KS3 students about education and career paths – which got me thinking, what did I wish I’d been told at that age? 🔍 Look for helpers – Find mentors/inspiring people willing to help you find what you want to do (and don't worry if you've got no idea!). Surrounding yourself with supportive people is key. 📗 Education vs On-the-job training – When I was in school there was a huge emphasis on getting a University education. Which was the path I ended up going down but looking back placement and on-the-job training would have been equally valuable without the heavy £££ fees.* ❤️ Find your passion – Find a job or create a path that makes you happy. “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” - Mark Twain What would you have wanted to know? *A heavy caveat, having a degree is what helped me secure my job at Venture Stream in the beginning. What Makes a Tier-1 College great? People would tell you it’s about the infrastructure, legacy, brand value, academic rigor, or what not. But if I have to mention just one thing, it’d be your peer group! The people around you make all the difference. When I entered CBS, I was most excited about its infrastructure. But what struck me the hardest was the people in my batch. My god, everybody was a damn overachiever. It teaches you so much humility! Somebody was a national-level swimmer. Someone was a class 10th CBSE topper. Someone was a YouTuber. Someone had won national-level case competitions in his 12th standard. Needless to say, everybody was a topper in their school (this wasn’t even a flex). And the first thing that comes up is the imposter syndrome! You feel you aren’t as accomplished as your friends. You feel that you’re not good enough to be here. But eventually, you feel motivated or, say, pressured to be better and achieve things while you see others achieve. You want to get those things too, and you just work hard for it. And in the process, you do get some pieces of success. But at times, you do fail to cross the line! But the funny thing is that you never fail! You just get 100 times better than what you would have been if you hadn’t gone into that rat race. You might still not be in the top 10% of the batch. But when you get out of your college, you feel that you eventually did achieve so much and improved so much. Though I don’t believe in this rat race at the expense of your health and mental well-being! But it’s the truth that you polish yourself by going through that rat race! Ps- I don't intend to promote a culture of toxic competition, but it is what it is, and this toxicity does help you to eventually grow as a person both professionally and personally (But undertaking self care and mental wellness becomes of key importance at these institutions too, cause in the end "Health is wealth" Follow Manan Jain for more such content🚀✨ #topcolleges #sscbs #du

MyPath is UMass Global's Competency-Based Education program, which allows you to work through your coursework on your schedule without set deadlines. Read on for his CBE program experience. "I think this program is perfect for older working adults. As someone who has dropped out of multiple colleges, this was the first time I could see the finish line from the start. I couldn't even imagine returning to sitting in a classroom at 40. My job situation might not be the norm—I start work at 3 AM and return home by 9 AM. But I believe I'd be just as successful in this program if I worked a 9-5. In traditional college settings, it's easy to feel overwhelmed with weekly deadlines and mandatory seminars. One failed class can make it feel like you'll never graduate. The best thing about this program is that it allows you to work at your own pace.
