TIEC has been so honored to continue our partnership with Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU), project managing the establishment of their new teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia. In November, we visited PMU to begin finalizing our last few deliverables, as well as to provide additional forward-looking guidance that will support their team. Even as we work towards the end of this project, we’re excited about the partnership possibilities that lie ahead. During the trip, we had the opportunity to review the entire project as a cohesive framework, rather than a collection of constituent pieces. Looking back, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. This would not have been possible without our phenomenal team of experts, whose collaborative efforts allowed us to provide a wealth of technical knowledge on topics as diverse as hospital model comparisons, architectural design, clinical specialties, hospital equipment, IT, organizational design and HR, and the quality standards required for accreditation. We look forward to PMU's next steps toward establishing a new health system provider and their College of Medicine!

Our experience and ingenuity are regularly called upon to provide innovation and best practices for the higher education sector globally, including helping established institutions gain accreditation, create new degree programs, and modernize curriculum; and we map, plan and execute new university designs and curricular programs for investors and government institutions. As a network, TIEC offers member institutions global connections that advance international strategies, build programmatic capacity, increase student mobility, and enhance global engagement to complement and strengthen comprehensive internationalization efforts at the institutions. Texas universities are a powerhouse together, and TIEC believes in the cross-sharing of ideas and information between all of our member organizations.

The U.S. Department of State’s IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) Program is pleased to announce the 2025 Virtual Institutes Series: Expanding U.S. Study Abroad through Virtual and Hybrid Programming. In connection with the year-long webinar series, Expanding U.S. Study Abroad Destinations: Connecting American Students with the World, this free series will provide training, networks, and resources for U.S. institutions to develop sustainable new virtual and hybrid international programs and partnerships. IDEAS Virtual Institutes are free cohort-based opportunities for faculty and administrators to engage with experts and each other around a common topic and develop study abroad resources for their institutions. Over a period of four to six weeks, approximately 30 participants will engage in asynchronous and synchronous content developed by host institutions. Alabama State University will host the first IDEAS Virtual Institute focused on integrating underrepresented students and destinations in study abroad, with a spotlight on developing sustainable and mutually beneficial programs with partners in East Africa. Institute content is specifically designed for institutions underrepresented in study abroad and/or those who may be new to virtual international programming. Training will focus on leveraging virtual and hybrid modalities to expand to less common study abroad destinations. Those who’ve had the opportunity to hear Roshan Mashal’s presentations for Global Voices on Campus have been profoundly moved and inspired! Now we want to extend the opportunity to even more of the consortium, so we’ve added a virtual option to those beyond the DFW area. From one of the recent participants: “Despite all of the challenges she has faced, she continues to advocate strongly for women's rights. Her resilience in the face of adversity is truly inspiring, and it highlights her dedication to making a positive impact. Even after everything she has been through, she remains committed to standing up for others, which I found particularly powerful and motivating.” To book Mashal for your campus, please visit https://loom.ly/QK2mTkk – sessions are available through the end of January 2025.

A thought-provoking and inspirational virtual exchange is happening this semester between students in Global Leadership classes at Texas Southern University (with Prof. Johnnie Williams) and students at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (with Prof. Anwar Ibrahim). The aim is to provide students with insights into the leadership process, vision building, followership formation, and motivation. Beyond this, students are also refining their own leadership skills and learning about each other’s customs and culture while working in teams. #VirtualExchange #GlobalLeaders #BuildingBridges #CulturalCompetencies #WorldClassConnection The Stevens Initiative at the Aspen Institute The Aspen Institute U.S. Department of State

Officially, Texas’s favorite pie is pecan, although anyone who’s been at a Thanksgiving gathering around here would know that definitely isn’t undisputed. :-) Besides the wonderful food and time with loved ones, we are also incredibly thankful to our many friends and partners around the world as they strive tirelessly for greater internationalization and seamless, cooperative problem-solving through education. No matter where you are today, we hope you are safe, cozy, and spending time with those you cherish. Happy Thanksgiving! #TexasBasedGloballyEngaged
