🌐 🕸 Read of the day - Tim Berners-Lee breaks down how the use of data and on top of this, AI has eroded the web’s values and led to breakdown and harm. To summarise, Berners-Lee highlights two connected issues relating to power concentration of a few companies and secondly, how personal data has been exploited and controls narratives. What I did find interesting, and positive, was that Solid Protocol is presented as one solution, as well as clear, forward-thinking legislation & the 'Contract for the Web'. Solid Protocol aims to provide individuals with their own ‘personal online data store & decide how their data is managed, used, and shared. Curious to know your thoughts! #dataprivacy #privacyfirst #personaldata

A simple illustration of the dangers of technology in the wrong hands. When engineers and technicians engage with new and advancing technology they should do it wisely and check, check again and to be sure check a third time it’s doing what they want it or do. This is #civilengineering

Who would have thought a post could generate such a response. Many comments from some smart people, some of whom are over complicating this but are essentially correct. My first reaction to this was to check the settings. I’ve seen calculators set to Rad’s give answers that weren’t expected. Not the calculators fault, its just doing whats its programmed. Second, ask the why, which by the looks of the 100’s of comments on the otiginal post is what has occurred. Third, rules are there for a reason. BODMAS is a simple way of getting through to millions of people. There may be specific exceptions in rare cases for engineers but the reason why an international standard is set is to move away from these problems. And to prove my point, I have made multiple spelling errors in this post, only picked up through proof reading. Turns out I have auto correct switched off. Don’t rely just on technology, ChatGp is great but again its just doing whats its programmed. Check manually.
