"𝗕𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿. Don't put the onus on your company or management to pave the path for you." — Maranda Dziekonski (she/her) "Even if you want to grow in CS, it is so important for you to understand how businesses work. Why does sales care about what sales cares about? Or marketing, product, finance?" — Sarah Steingraber "I would almost guarantee if you reach out to somebody who is a director of CS or VP of CS and that's the next path you want to go, ask them if they could talk to you about their journey. They'll probably get on a call with you." — Mia Kang These were just a few of the 💎gems💎 from our "CSM Confidential Part 2" event back in August, which was all about helping direct reports navigate career growth and #compensation. This morning, a client offered my candidate 10% more than they asked for… 🤯💓 And the best part? They did it without being asked. Why? Because they saw the candidate’s true worth and wanted to reflect that in their offer. Simple, really. 🤷🏻♂️ The result? It made my job a lot easier, and here’s why: ➡️ The candidate accepted immediately with genuine excitement. ➡️ They’re already bought into their future employer and new manager. ➡️ They feel truly valued even before stepping through the door. It’s a small move that creates a huge impact—on attraction, retention, and morale. Here's to more businesses offering candidates what they're worth 👏🏼

I loved reading this blog by Flexa partner Lizzie Benton on ditching the concept of careers ladders and embracing career pathways instead. Lizzie thoughtfully sets out the problem of the career ladder (it can be limiting, political and un-collaborative) and how the concepts of career pathways, job marketplaces and job crafting can help through: 🪴 recognising that humans beings intrinsically want to grow 🔓 unlocking potential ↔️ reframing progression as sideways and across, not just up 🚫 progression doesn't have to equal being a manager 💡 aligning personal interests with company interests So much thoughtful content in here. Thank you Lizzie Benton!

Attention all referees. I am sorry. I'm sorry we mistreated you. We've not been honest with you. And we've been too soft on you. That needs to change. Don't get me wrong, we are very appreciative of your time that you don't get paid for. But we have let you off the hook. We've let you provide vague answers and overly favourable evaluations of candidates. We've rarely asked you to substantiate claims of the candidate being a good performer. Next time we'll truly lead the reference check process. We'll challenge you when you go off topic and pull you up on those too good to be true evaluations. We'll ask you questions that focus on the criteria that we know creates high performance and we'll ask you for data on performance, results, outcomes. And we certainly won't e-mail you a form to fill out. It might be a shock to the system, but I can assure you it will benefit all parties. Thanks in advance for accepting my apologies. #referees, #Facet5, #talentacquisition
