We are honored to announce our next #ACFrontPage event, “Elections 2024: Senator Murphy Chris Murphy on the future of Democratic foreign policy,” on Monday September 9, at 11:30 AM ET. Since World War II, the United States has played a leading role in upholding a rules-based international system. Now the United States confronts major challenges across the globe—from competition with an increasingly aggressive China and revisionist Russia, to worldwide economic turbulence and uncertainty around energy sources and supplies. It is vital that the next US president have a clear, long-term strategy for US security and prosperity. Following an introduction from Atlantic Council Board Director and RBC Capital Market Head of Global Commodity Strategy and MENA Research Helima Croft, Senator Murphy will discuss the most pressing international issues facing the country and how the next US president—as well as the next Congress—might respond to a demanding geopolitical agenda ahead of the 2024 US presidential election. He will lay out his expectations for a potential Kamala Harris presidency, as well as how he believes the United States should conceptualize its role in the world, position itself to counter authoritarian competitors and adversaries, and build a stable and prosperous global economy. The 2024 US Presidential Elections saw Donald Trump pulling off a historic win and is set to return to the White House again.   In this commentary for The Straits Times, IPS Special Adviser Tommy Koh discusses the outlook for US-Singapore and ASEAN relations under a second Trump administration, suggesting that while US-Singapore ties are likely to stay strong, ASEAN should temper its expectations.    Trump’s preference for bilateral engagements and protectionist policies could pose challenges for ASEAN, particularly in areas such as climate change, trade, and US-China relations.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gbisgYfy

🇺🇸Trump or Harris, Latin America will remain a low priority for the U.S. Election season is almost over in Latin America, with a presidential runoff in Uruguay later this month the sole date left in the schedule. But the upcoming U.S. vote will be followed much more closely by regional leaders, as many will have to adjust their strategies based on whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump wins the election. With this in mind, The Brazilian Report reached out to Peter Hakim, president emeritus of the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington-based think tank focused on the affairs of the Western Hemisphere. But Mr. Hakim is quick to clarify: the feeling is not mutual.
