#presidentialelections in the US will take place soon, and the #election campaigns are in full swing. In the #media, a lot of topics and issues tend to be portrayed as politically polarized. That can be highly problematic and increase the spread of #misinformation, particularly by #conservatives, as Xiajing Zhu and Connie Pechmann in their recent Journal of Marketing paper find. Why? Because in polarized situations, conservatives’ need for #ingroup #dominance is elevated, which leads them to convey more misinformation than #liberals. Interesting findings and implications related to media #literacy and the often black-and-white discussions and positions around a multitude of political, economic, social, and environmental issues. #politicalpolarization Study link in the first comment.

The U.S. celebrated its 4th of July Independence Day holiday earlier this month. It celebrates our independence from British rule and declares our democracy. Merriam-Webster defines democracy as a "government by the people, especially the rule of the majority, is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections."  This week, I offer you my article on "Etiquette and Democracy" and some insights on what's happening to our communications, and what to do about it.
