How Women Built a Multimillion-Dollar UI/UX Design Reaching $1 million in revenue is a monumental challenge for small businesses, with only 2.3% of #womenownedbusinesses achieving this milestone, as I write in my latest Forbes article. OAK THEORY, a #UI/#UX design firm co-founded by Hannah Ryu and Veronica Shelton, is among the few to break this barrier. Their success story highlights the power of a strong business partnership, a stellar reputation resulting in referrals, SEO savvy, a supportive global network—including peer support groups like Entrepreneurs Organization—and being a part of supplier diversity programs. been instrumental in its rapid growth since launching during the Covid-19 lockdown. Ryu and Shelton’s diverse perspectives drive innovation in #UXUI design, emphasizing empathy, attention to detail, and inclusivity. Their journey underscores the importance of a global entrepreneurial support village, work flexibility, and the undeniable impact of supplier diversity in achieving business success. Lately,I've realized that... If the foundation of your UX is not strong and well detailed, you will have lots of challenge as a designer. Iterations are normal...but if this is not properly fixed by you or "Oga"...there will be so much back and forth. I was having a chat with my teamates today on a group call and I remembered telling everyone the need to revisit our UX.... something seems to be off! That was the basis for the almost two hours of call three of us had today Khafilat Akinpelu Progress Orishade and myself... Funnily, before the end of the call...we realized some things we neglected due to time constraints...we discovered how pivotal they are to our design process and we are iterating accordingly(still ongoing) Now,this is my concern...I'm aware that most startups want to jump "the gun" and rush to the design part without a detailed UX process (due to funds or possibly time factor). But it got me thinking on how we churn out products without detailed UX...the one we jokingly call "Oga centered design"! I know we want to make money and all...but, ain't we leaving out fundamentals from our products?... I was working on a card sort and other UX processes today, and at the same time wondering how many products go through this thorough research methods... Or perhaps it's just an overthinking and nothing deep...do you think it is deep? 📸 Snapshot of an ongoing UX research work. #randommusings #uxdesigner #Womenintech #uxresearch.

Eric Meyer (https://lnkd.in/exgz6UV2) and Sara Wachter-Boettcher's fabulous "Design for Real Life" now available to read free online! From a review: "For current and aspiring product and UX professionals who want to ensure they are acting well on behalf of people. The examples in the book highlight how easily we act on assumptions and biases even with the best intentions of empathy and robust practice. The recommendations to overcome those weaknesses are clear and straightforward. However, like most design work, insights and direction produced by the bettered process will have to be advocated for and publicized. For those of us who believe we've learned these lessons and practice them well, this book is a great collection to point to when we mentor and guide those further back on the path. Here's to making a better world by seeing more clearly the one we're in." Access it here: https://dfrlbook.com/ H/T Julie Dirksen & Bianca Woods

🔫 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 Today, I received an excellent article from NN Group in my newsletter, which is valuable not only for UX designers but also for entrepreneurs. The article discusses how to help users (or customers) make choices without nudging or manipulating them, thereby increasing their satisfaction and retention. 👨⚕️ Richard Thaler, Nobel laureate in economics who proposed the nudge theory (guiding people towards making decisions), concluded that nudges should be limited, and the focus should be on removing barriers that prevent users from making good decisions. In other words, we should be less focused on persuading users to do what we want (Subscribe! Buy! Donate!) and more on helping them do what they already want to: efficiently make choices that they’ll be satisfied with. So, how can we simplify the decision-making process? Start by understanding the complexity of the decision and the circumstances under which the decision-maker is operating. For example, try answering the following questions: ➡️ How much prior experience do users have with making this type of decision? ➡️ How impactful is this decision in their lives? ➡️ How many options do users generally try to compare? ➡️ How easily can users differentiate between the available options? This knowledge will aid in developing strategies, and simplifying choices greatly benefits organisations by leading to: ✅ Greater satisfaction: Decision-making is hard, especially when it involves significant effort. ✅ Increased retention: If your product makes decision-making easy, users are more likely to return. ✅ Reduced need for customer support: Users are less likely to reach out in confusion or frustration when they can make choices they’re satisfied with from the beginning. ✅ Fewer refunds and returns: A major reason customers ask for money back is because, at the time of purchase, they were unable to confidently make a decision they would be satisfied with. I believe this is an excellent example of sustainable design that benefits both users and businesses. It's about building long-term relationships rather than seeking short-term gains. 🤝 💬 Do you incorporate sustainable design principles in your projects? 🤓 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dQubqd7R #UXDesign #UserExperience #CustomerExperience #DecisionMaking #NNGroup #SustainableDesign
