Choosing team members. If you are running a business, or running a project, you are working with people. Some would not think in a rural village in Mexico that teams are important. They are, perhaps more so than in the big urban corporation. If you do not know the value of each worker, and the relationships they have to each other, and skill sets, you are going to fail. Period. Like all teams, they will test you, maybe challenge your credibility and knowledge. Does this guy really know what he is talking about? You need to get dirty, work with them, prove your worth and they will do amazing things for you. You then can direct, and be respected. They will want to excel and contribute to the success of the project. There are many analogies about teams. Sports always comes to mind and the different roles. In a small village in Mexico, everyone knows everyone. So there is a built in hierarchy already established. In the beginning I needed to learn who the players were. Who had the skill sets and could be team members. Of course there was an advantage that comes from being the new financial opportunity. That also sets up the test. And they tested. I surveyed the six acres of oceanfront land and created topo maps, put in roads, a well, built holding tanks, ran water lines and underground power, built fence lines, and designed and built an amazing oceanfront house, followed up with a second small house. Many were surprised, even amazed that I succeeded. I followed my schedule, came in on my budgets, and proved the naysayers wrong. It was the people on the teams from the neighboring villages that made it happen, and I was there through the whole thing with them, getting my hands dirty, leading the team. The photo is of Poncho. He had two very old dump trucks, and large backhoe tractor with a blade. Poncho put in my first access road and laid a large culvert pipe to accommodate a seasonal stream. He and others built out infrastructure on the property. Another team built the house. I owe any successes I have had to the teams I’ve surrounded myself with. In my design office, in an architectural renovation, in a remote area in Mexico building a house. Good people make good things happen. I have been fortunate. casajmexico.com

Building something great is f*cking hard. As the master of trying to do everything myself, I've learned to never underestimate the power of a great team. When starting Flexxi Design, I debated going out as a solopreneur. It definitely works for some and the benefits are obvious: personal brand recognition, little coordination, the list goes on. It's actually been a major pushback, as clients want to know that working with Flexxi, means working with me. Not only are you working with me, but you get the absolute best of my skills and experience. Why? I’ve found that working alongside a powerhouse team not only empowers us to deliver 10x in terms of quality and speed, but diversity of perspective creates winning products. Solo or team - what kind of creatives do you enjoy working with?

Dont ever ever work with 3rd party softwere development companies, they have 0 interest on getting the job done. always hire your own team. they are trash and their "developers" are trash. at the end of the day its all about incentives. think... what is softwere development company incentives? if they tell you we want to do the best job to get more customers they are lying. they here to milk your money, spend time on PDFs insted of doing their work. Rather Labs, Inc they are the example for this, dont touch them. if you a founder and cannot create your own in house team, you better do something lese.

I'm embarrassed to share this one... Back in early 2021, I had just taken the leap and began my journey of building my agency, Craftsman Creative. I had one employee, dozens of clients, and hundreds of hours of work. So, I did what any early entrepreneur would do... I tried to find the most cost effective solution to my problem. At the time, that "quick fix" was an offshore unlimited graphic design service for a few hundred bucks a month. This was the first graphic they produced... ... and I promptly cancelled the contract. It took that mistake to push me into taking the risk of hiring another employee, Taggert Corn who is Mallard Agency's Senior Designer to this day. He's completed over 1,000 unique design requests since, and I almost never hear a compliant about his work. What I thought would be a risky hire turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Here’s what I learned: If you want to build something bigger than yourself, you have to make it bigger than just you. Scary, I know. Delegating is tough. Payroll is tough. Leadership is tough. But if you want to build a team, it's what you've been called to. And if you don't want to build something bigger than yourself, don't do it. There's no single recipe for building a successful business. Establish YOUR core purpose, keep it pointed upwards and outwards, and run faithfully after it. That's what it's all about, my friends.

Building your team from day one is cr*p. Instead, focus on what really matters: investing in the right people at the right time. When you start a business, the challenge is figuring out where to invest and where to save. I faced this same challenge at ALTRD. I realized I needed two types of people to grow: The Pitchers: Those who can bring in new business and sell your vision. The Doers: Those who work behind the scenes to make everything happen. But the truth is, you can’t hire everyone you think you need. My strategy was to prioritize the pitchers—creative minds who could help bring in clients, think of ideas But running an AI-based services company also meant I needed very highly skilled engineers and developers to deliver quality results. Remember, as your business grows, you'll gain more flexibility to bring in the right people to execute your vision. Be thoughtful about your investments in those early days. Fellow tech founders, how did you approach building your team when you started your journey?

That image is where a trillion-dollar company started. Be happy starting without everything - You don't need a large team. - You don't need a fancy office space. - You don't need the best computer. - You don't need the perfect product from day one. - You don't need to have all the answers. - You don't need to wait for the perfect moment. - You don't even need investors. What you need is the ability to work with what you have and produce the best you can. Every small victory counts and helps you move forward.

_ team working _ Our work is made up of many things, but the most important are three: 1. ideas A project that does not carry forward an idea gets quickly lost 2. ideas Without an idea, there is no story; without a story, there is no project. 3. ideas A project without an idea is mere construction exercise.

TEAM BUILDING!? Most of us would not attempt to build our current home by ourselves. I would also argue that most of us would not even attempt to manage the various specialty trades required to build our home (to those that can I tip my hat to you). More times that not there is a general contractor who performs some of the work but subs out the rest (sometimes all) to specialists. Should we take the same approach to building our #financialhome? If so, who should be on that team? I would argue that we should all aim to build that team (and sooner rather than later) or find someone who can. Whether you are building the team or entrusting another to build it for you, the question begs...who should be on it? Here are a few suggestions: #financialadvisor #estateattorney #insurancespecialist #realestateprofessional Who else should you consider? Provide your suggestions in the comments below.

I wanted to make the coolest stuff. When I started Morpho, I didn’t care what products we’d make. Whether that was a chopstick or a smart home device… All I wanted is to become NO.1 in our industry. Build the best every niche had to offer. Compete on quality and not low cost. That’s how we made it possible to create a wide range of products. The downside is: We don’t have a one size fits all solution. When you come to us, we don’t know how much it’s going to cost. That’s why onboarding is so important … we figure out how your idea would look like as a product. We get the answers to price points, material, feasability reports, time line, and a plan to get a DFM design ready to rumble. Back to my question… How do you become the number one in an industry (you don’t know much about)? You break the rules. Break protocol. Stretch your imagination. When you’re dead set on making it happen, you just identify a few of the bigger levers that need to be pulled. Don’t stress about the details. Build a team of people who know more than you. It’ll work out as long as you give it that initial push. 🔔 Hit the bell for my next post. ✍🏽 Thoughts? Questions? Drop them below.
