https://lnkd.in/gDba5khC 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 6 STEPS and Do's & Dont's When Meeting A New Dog Many dog's enjoy meeting new people, but there are some that don't. Understand your dog's needs, and let anyone who approaches know what they are. Having a stranger reach for their face can be threatening for a dog. To them, it's forcing contact and interaction rather than giving them the choice to come and greet you. 6 IMPORTANT Steps to Follow When Greeting a New Dog 1. Keep your distance and approach slowly. 2. Always ask the dog's owner for permission to pet their pup. 3. If given the ok, angle your body to the side, and don't make direct eye contact with the unfamiliar dog. 4. Wait for the dog to approach you, or if the dog's owner agrees, offer the dog a tasty treat. 5. If the dog comes near and seems relaxed, give them a gentle pet on the side, back, or chest. 6. If the dog stays within arms reach after you've petted them a few times, that's your invitation to keep petting. If not, give them some space. It has been commonly taught, accepted to greet a new dog by extending your hand to let them sniff if interested. DO's and DONT's of GREETING a DOG 🚫DON'Ts 🛑DON'T make direct eye contact with the dog. 🛑DON'T tower over the unfamiliar dog or reach over their head. 🛑DON'T grab or hug the unfamiliar dog. 🛑DON'T be loud. *️⃣DO's *️⃣DO let the dog approach you. *️⃣DO proceed with caution when petting the unfamiliar dog. ⚠️ *️⃣DO let the dog sniff you. It's good for you, the dog, and the dog's owner to meet and enjoy a safe visit. Follow the 6 Important Steps and the DO's and Don'ts When Greeting an Unfamiliar Dog. 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 🔆 #Dogs #Pets #Pups #happydog #petlovers #doglovers #greetingadog #instadogs #instadog #dogsofinstagram #followers @everyone #linkedinlearning Enjoy this? ♻️ Repost it to your network and Follow Lisa Przybysz for more posts

How to Manage Your Reactive Dog I've trained dogs across six countries 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇩🇪🇬🇷🇳🇱🇹🇹 Therefore, I've seen firsthand how reactivity can turn walks into stressful experiences. If your dog reacts every time you pass another dog, here's how focusing on your own dog will make a HUGE difference: → 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴: Many owners watch other dogs instead of their own, missing the signs of impending reactions. → 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀: Learn your dog's body language to anticipate and prevent outbursts. → 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘁 𝗘𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: Correct your dog immediately when you notice signs of reactivity. → 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿: Consistent corrections help your dog understand that reacting isn't acceptable when encountering other dogs. → 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿: When your dog doesn't react to other dogs or triggers when you pass them, reward them immediately. By staying attentive and proactive, you can turn stressful walks into enjoyable outings for both you and your dog. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆? Do you know what tomorrow is? If you guessed Wednesday you are right, but also wrong… This Wednesday is Dogs in Yellow Day, as marked out by this lovely picture of Alvin, but what exactly does this mean? Well, if you happen to come across a dog dressed like Alvin here, whether that’s tomorrow or any day of the year, this means that they are anxious, reactive, or a dog in training and you should give them space. Dogs in Yellow Day aims to raise awareness for these special pups and their unique needs. The color yellow serves as a visual cue to give them the space they require, promoting empathy and respect among pet parents and the community. Remember, a reactive dog isn't a bad dog—it's just navigating the world in its own way. So, if you encounter a dog in yellow, be sure to give them the space and compassion they need. Let's make every day a little easier for anxious dogs worldwide. 🌟🐶 #DogsInYellowDay #GiveSpaceBeKind

Service dogs are more common and provide a variety of support functions for their owners. Even when wearing a distinctive vest with "service dog" markings/warnings, owners still deal with people who see the service dog merely as a pet and unknowingly distract the dog from its job. Out of respect to the owners of service animals, and those trained for service, please be considerate and consider these tips: #servicedogs #serviceanimals
🌟 National Service Dog Month Highlight: How to Interact with a Service Dog 🌟 Did you know that there are important guidelines to follow when interacting with a Service Dog? This infographic breaks it down into simple steps that help ensure the safety and focus of these incredible dogs and their handlers. 📌 Key Points: Always Ask First: Never approach or pet a Service Dog without the handler’s permission. Respect Their Space: Service Dogs are working, so avoid distractions like making noises or offering treats. No Petting: Even though it’s tempting, refrain from petting unless the handler says it’s okay. Focus on the Handler: Engage with the handler, not the dog, and keep conversations brief if they’re in a busy environment. Why It Matters: Service Dogs play a vital role in the lives of those they assist. By following these guidelines, you’re helping them do their job effectively. #dbl #dogsforbetterlives #assistancedog #assistancedogintraining #servicedog #servicedogintraining #servicedogsofinstagram #ServiceDogAwareness #NationalServiceDogMonth #nsdm #TheMoreYouKnow
