🙋🏽♀️ As an employee with ADHD who uses fidget toys my answer is yes yes and yes. I have a squeezy ball, popping toy, fidget spinner etc which I use during meetings and it helps me so much. Concentration and restlessness are of course known traits of those with ADHD, but these are traits which are more pronounced during work meetings! For me personally, there are several things I struggle with during meetings: - I can find myself distracted by external stimuli - Hypersensitive to my environment - especially an environment where I have no control over the temperature, seating, number of people etc - I struggle to take in verbal information, especially when it’s general and directed at a group of people - Meetings can be long and it’s a real struggle to maintain my focus throughout the duration it - It’s so hard to remain seated and I’ll get up at times even when I’m not meant to - I can get easily bored and zone out Those are just some examples. In my opinion, it is a reasonable adjustment to allow a neurodivergent employee to have the means to be able to manage their symptoms in the workplace. By not doing that, it will put them at a disadvantage. Fidget toys/stim tools are great because they can be discreet, small enough to carry around and they don’t break my bank! I do think if an employer has an issue with a neurodivergent employee needing a fidget tool then perhaps that’s not the best place for a neurodivergent to work 🤔 But also, I don’t think that is something which should be accepted. We should be making sure employers are accommodating for neurodiversity! #adhd #reasonableadjustments #disability #neurodiversity #adhdawareness #fidgettoys #stimtools #stimming
