It's that time of year where you start seeing the below image all over Linkedin with comments like "What your holidays are like when you are in Logistics" As much as it is amusing and to a point, is true, for me it is a sad reflection of what people's mentality is nowadays. Annual leave is not a luxury, it is a necessity. A time to recharge, reconnect with yourself, friends, family etc. Allowing you to get back to your desk refreshed and ready to go. If you are constantly giving 110% of yourself, you will burn out, you are giving more than you actually have, which will result in the reverse of what your end goal, ultimately is. Annual leave also gives you the opportunity to hand the steering of the ship over to your second in command or other team members. You spend a large amount of time developing people and working with them to get them where you know they can be. Annual leave is an amazing opportunity to give them the autonomy that is needed and show them the trust and confidence you have in them to smash it out of the park. That's why on that that note, at 17:30 today my out of office will be going on and control handed over to my team who I know will thrive and flourish!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Holidays can be the busiest time of the year for some businesses. How do you handle holiday time off requests though when you may need your staff on deck more than other times of the year? Here are 3 tips to help get your projects finished and keep your staff happy: 1 – Allow staff to make trade-offs. It may be possible that someone can cover for that staff member for the time needed without neglecting their own projects. 2 – Don’t assume that everyone wants to celebrate the holidays. Ask your staff’s preference. There may be some staff members that would prefer to work on holidays and have off some other day off. 3 – Show you care. You may not be able to accommodate everyone’s request but don’t act like it is no big deal. Apologize to that staff member for denying their request and possibly offer a tradeoff of some kind. #holidaytimeoff #holidays #pivotgrowthpartners #pivotgrowth

Just let us have our brat summer in peace! 😤 In all seriousness though, your paid holiday is your right and it's important that you're able to fully switch off, no matter how you choose to spend that time. Take these steps before going on annual leave to tie up loose ends and set healthy boundaries ⬇️ ✅ Hand over any key pieces of information and tasks to your manager/colleagues. Have a discussion so they can ask any questions they may have BEFORE you go ✅ Set your out of office with clear dates for when you will not be working, with a dedicated contact for anything urgent ✅ Write a list of things you need to remember for when you come back - this way you'll have everything prepped and ready to go when you return, allowing you to relax fully while you're away ✅ Switch off work-related notifications if possible to help you fully disengage from work What other things do you do to prepare before going on annual leave? Let us know in the comments! 💬 #BratSummer #SummerHolidays #OfficeCulture

Back from just over a week’s holiday and can’t stop thinking about the fact 44% of the UK don’t use their full holiday allowance each year 🫠 We all know time off to rest & recharge is SO important. I know that I feel like a much better version of myself after my break. So why are so many of us not doing it? And how can we make sure our team’s do? 🌴 Lead by example: as leaders we have so much influence - take your holiday and show that it’s okay to unplug and recharge and talk about it! I’m emails off, slack deleted off my phone, and I even removed LinkedIn and the apps that might tempt me to think about work. 🌴Regular Reminders: try to periodically remind your team about their holiday allowance and encourage them to schedule time off. Sometimes you just need that gentle nudge to get it planned! 🌴Monitor Usage: keep an eye on holiday usage and proactively reach out to team members who haven't taken much time off, suggesting they plan some breaks. Basically, keep nudging! Let's create a culture where taking time off is seen as a strength, not a weakness. How do you encourage your team to take their holidays? PS. I went to Italy, and it was dreamy thank you 🍝❤️ #Leadership #TeamWellbeing #Productivity #WorkLifeBalance #HolidayPlanning

Public holidays now live in Operating. You don't have to ask people to mark them manually anymore! This means time saved and more accurate forecasts. How it works: - Create public holiday calendars based on a country's or state's specific holiday calendar - Assign public holiday calendars for groups of people at once, e.g. a country office - Add or remove specific holidays to create custom holiday calendars

This is your reminder to take some annual leave. If you never take your holidays read on…I’ve just had a week off and I can’t wait to get stuck back in. I’m raring to go with a load of fresh ideas. Here’s the secret. My friend and colleague Laine showed me this excellent technique of booking all your annual leave at the start of the holiday year using school half terms as a guide. Schools know learning minds need regular breaks and as professionals we know that productivity needs space to breathe. Being so over worked and stressed out is an indication you’re probably not doing your best work. And remember- if you think it all falls apart when you’re not there, it won’t. And if it does, then your systems and delegations are not resilient or up to task. Make sure it’s not all in your head and can be handed over. So here’s something new to try if you’re bad at taking breaks: Use school half terms as a guide to take regular breaks. Take a screenshot of the pic below and book your holidays for next year. You can adjust the number of days for each period depending what you have available. I guarantee it will give you regular breaks to look forward to and make sure you’re not leaving all your time off for a mad rush at the end of the year! #personaldevelopment #selfcare #productivity #advice
