Happy Monday Many "ordinary" jobs are far more essential than we think. Without cleaners tidying our roads, offices, and houses, the environment would become unsanitary, leading to illness and death. Without carpenters, we would lack furniture and struggle with living spaces. Without mechanics, our cars would sit idle, leaving us stranded. While we may opt for DIY, few of us could handle all these tasks without burning out or making costly mistakes. Now, it is true that we place more value on certain jobs based on income or "packaging". We look down on people who handle "ordinary" work, either by choice or circumstances. They are not at our level, we say. However, a functioning society cannot have everyone as entrepreneurs, tech professionals, or managers. We need the women selling at the market, the commercial bikemen, the taxi drivers, the plumbers and carpenters. Every legitimate work that contributes to human flourishing is valuable. Should we then, look down on certain occupations? A better approach would be to thank them for their services. Interestingly, some earn more than we do. We have the demure and good English, they're quietly purchasing assets. But beyond financial success, the impact of their work alone dignifies their labour. #Mondays #work

Working from Home Part time? There is a reduction in the claim because you work only part time at home. Example You work from your spare room only in a 3 bedroom flat So 1/3 is your Usage But you only work 4 days a week (80%) So if your total household costs are £18,000 Your claim is 1/3 * 80% * £18000= £4,800

Many a time, office personnel were allowed to leave 2 hours prior to a holiday the next day or the upcoming weekend while excluding, ya know the whole DEI stuff, the shop personnel. One time before a holiday, I was the only manager on site. So I decided that was not right and let the guys on both shifts leave 2 hours early knowing damn well no one above me authorized it. The point was to treat these guys unlike how they were often treated in all the years I was there. They sure seemed to be both shocked and appreciative of the gesture, treating them like fellow human beings looking forward to a holiday and time off with their families and friends. Guys who for years seemed distant and unappreciated, attitudes changed immediately. Big shock right? They worked harder, were more productive, and got all the work we needed to get done in a shorter period of time. Monday came, and I was told to never do that again along with questions about who had authorized it. My point is twofold. Take risks when what your doing is right and if you run a company aim to do just that. All the “little” people, don’t treat them like less human. Even if some will take advantage. Err on the side of taking care of your good personnel and that humanity will be rewarded with the profits you need to answer for anyway.

Good morning LinkedIn family. There was a follow-up question from yesterday's post that caught my attention. I decided to bring it to light to help the masses 😀. Kindly check on my prior post for further insight. Section 76 (2) in simpler terms states that weekly rest shall be any day in which the employee is not required to work. While Section 74 (b) states that full-time work can begin on any day of the week including a public holiday. AN EXAMPLE FROM SECTION 74 (b) Lets assume that your shift starts on Tuesday which is Youth day. You will work like an ordinally day. Though sometimes there could be something called shift differential depending on the shift (topic of another day 😁). AN EXAMPLE OF SECTION 76 (2) Where an employer requires you to work on sunday as the first day of work, your resting day will be saturday or where your week starts on tuesday, monday will be your resting day. By the way, from our example 12*4=48 hours of work. The employee is then given 4 days to rest, which is more favourable to the employee (Section 127 of the ECA). HERE TO GUIDE. #Zambianlabourlaws #labourlaws #hoursofwork #fulltimeemployment #shifts #labourConsultant

Should I Resign After a Serious Attack Walking to My Office? #WorkLife #JobResignation #SafetyFirst #CareerChange Hey there! I wanted to share something that’s been weighing on my mind lately. So, picture this: after just a month at my new job, I had a scary encounter on my way to work. As I was walking from the parking lot, a homeless person came at me with a metal pole! 😱 Thankfully, I managed to duck, but it really made me think. Here's the deal: 🚶♂️ **Every day in the office:** My role requires me to be in the office daily, while most of my coworkers only come in every two weeks. 💸 **Costly parking:** My pay is on the lower side, and parking is super expensive. I feel stuck! 😟 **Safety concerns:** I recently found out that a coworker was attacked too, and it was in broad daylig... Source: https://lnkd.in/gHyiv2Ri

If you have a desk-based job, the likelihood is that you may struggle to reach anywhere near the target of 10,000 steps a day. In fact, the average daily step count for an office worker in the UK is around 5,444 steps, around half of what we should all be aiming for each day. Research has shown that even sitting for periods of longer than 30 minutes at a time could result in spiked blood pressure and blood sugar levels. If you’re someone who isn’t getting enough steps in each day, here is a list of tips and things you can try to help increase your step count… 💚 Invest in a stand up desk 💚 Use the toilet furthest away from you 💚 Don’t eat at your desk 💚 If you’re working from home, schedule in an alternative commute 💚 Schedule phone calls instead of video calls so you can walk and talk 💚Always take the stairs 💚 Join a walking group 💚 Start a step challenge with your colleagues What do you find helps to boost your daily step count each day? #5pillarsofvitality #Move #DorsetChamber #BusinessAsAForceForGood #DailySteps #SedentaryLifestyle #StepCount

On the news 🗞️ they want people to get back to the office. What are your thoughts? Some people who got interviewed where brutally honest saying they enjoyed getting their house work and washings done. Food for thought. Does anyone really need to work from home? Not everyone needs to work 9 to 5 pm. People should have choices. Start at 8 finish at 4. Start at 7 finish at 3. Start at 10 finish at 6 These times would work well for people who have family commitments not just for kids but for elderly parents if you are still lucky 🍀 enough that your parents are still alive. The people who have been lucky to work from home since the COVID could go back to work in the office. The question is will they? Blended working is good in my opinion and another idea 💡 the ones who do work in the office all the time could get their day cut ✂️ by getting to leave 30 mins early for travel time. I have noticed that on a Monday and Friday the traffic is a lot less on the roads. These are definitely the two days that people chose to work from home. Not fair if it’s the same people all the time. I can solve this put a rota in place and make it fair for all. If everyone worked from home it has a negative impact on all the businesses in the City. Keep our city’s alive and the economy. #work #workingfromhome #choice #differentworktimes

How do you keep your sanity as a working parent during the holidays? Let's share tips ⬇️ I'll go first: 1. Don't spend cash on presents. I use all my Chase credit card points to buy presents. I've done this the past few years and it's helped immensely. 2. Hire people to wrap presents. It's the one holiday thing I really despise doing so I outsource this. 3. Recurring holiday traditions. Here are the things we always do every year and this prevents me from worrying I'm not doing "enough": - Winter Garden Light Experience - Cookie making night - Polar Express night - Nutcracker - Tree day - get tree and decorate
