📊 New research from eXp UK reveals that one in five estate agents plan to work straight through Christmas 🎄—no time off at all. With the property market buzzing, it’s shaping up to be a busy end to the year. But with burnout looming for some, it’s a reminder that even the hardest workers need a break.🎄 #WorkLifeBalance #PropertyNews

Happy Monday Many "ordinary" jobs are far more essential than we think. Without cleaners tidying our roads, offices, and houses, the environment would become unsanitary, leading to illness and death. Without carpenters, we would lack furniture and struggle with living spaces. Without mechanics, our cars would sit idle, leaving us stranded. While we may opt for DIY, few of us could handle all these tasks without burning out or making costly mistakes. Now, it is true that we place more value on certain jobs based on income or "packaging". We look down on people who handle "ordinary" work, either by choice or circumstances. They are not at our level, we say. However, a functioning society cannot have everyone as entrepreneurs, tech professionals, or managers. We need the women selling at the market, the commercial bikemen, the taxi drivers, the plumbers and carpenters. Every legitimate work that contributes to human flourishing is valuable. Should we then, look down on certain occupations? A better approach would be to thank them for their services. Interestingly, some earn more than we do. We have the demure and good English, they're quietly purchasing assets. But beyond financial success, the impact of their work alone dignifies their labour. #Mondays #work

Agents urged to take a Christmas break to avoid burnout. A recent survey by eXp UK highlights the risk of burnout among estate agents, with one in five planning to take no time off during Christmas. Out of nearly 900 surveyed agents, 80% intend to take a break, but 44% will work until Christmas Eve, and 45% will return to work between Christmas and New Year’s. While 85% plan to take New Year’s Day off, 63% will resume work on January 2. Only 11% expect to completely disconnect from work during the festive season, focusing primarily on completing transactions and organising viewings. Adam Day, head of eXp UK, emphasises the demanding nature of the estate agency business, especially with an increase in sales due to an upcoming Stamp Duty relief deadline, urging agents to take a short break to prevent burnout. Have a good weekend, everyone! #burnout #christmas https://lnkd.in/euKAaRAg

On the news 🗞️ they want people to get back to the office. What are your thoughts? Some people who got interviewed where brutally honest saying they enjoyed getting their house work and washings done. Food for thought. Does anyone really need to work from home? Not everyone needs to work 9 to 5 pm. People should have choices. Start at 8 finish at 4. Start at 7 finish at 3. Start at 10 finish at 6 These times would work well for people who have family commitments not just for kids but for elderly parents if you are still lucky 🍀 enough that your parents are still alive. The people who have been lucky to work from home since the COVID could go back to work in the office. The question is will they? Blended working is good in my opinion and another idea 💡 the ones who do work in the office all the time could get their day cut ✂️ by getting to leave 30 mins early for travel time. I have noticed that on a Monday and Friday the traffic is a lot less on the roads. These are definitely the two days that people chose to work from home. Not fair if it’s the same people all the time. I can solve this put a rota in place and make it fair for all. If everyone worked from home it has a negative impact on all the businesses in the City. Keep our city’s alive and the economy. #work #workingfromhome #choice #differentworktimes

Are you employed 🤔 you need to know these numbers… There are 53 weekends in 2024 which is 106 days. Add on 8 bank holidays = 114 Add on average holiday entitlement of 22 days = 136 That means most employees will work 229 days per year, or 63% of the year 👩💻 Adopting a 9 day working fortnight changes the landscape dramatically… By adopting this model, employees would work 26 days less meaning 162 days at home, or 56% time spent at work - sound more palatable 🧐 This extra day every two weeks can be used for life admin, relaxation or flexibility for working tasks 💪 I know it’s popular in Europe and more employers are starting to implement this in the UK 🇬🇧 Studies have proven an increase to outputs and effectiveness, improved mental health, and a decrease to absence. We are leading the way on this in the Conveyancing space and I am an advocate given I was able to look after my boys yesterday whilst attending a team meeting #wellness #conveyancing #9dayfortnight #ukproperty

Organisations want you to come to their far away offices with less pay. It's hard today with pollution, traffic, temperature etc. The least they can do is provide some extra pay to rent a nearby apartment. But they don't. And what's more disappointing is that many of these organisations don't need their employees in the office on a daily basis. If you want people in your office daily, you need to justify it with their packages. #workfromhome #worklife #salary

There seems like there's something in the air... We are speaking to a lot of clients who are going away for Christmas holidays for only 1 - 2 weeks. This is drastically different to the 3 - 4 weeks the last couple of years. We are speaking to a lot of clients who are very keen to engage this side of Christmas and our diaries are absolutely packed. In fact, I just did a rough count and there's something like 70 client meetings in the Auckland office this week alone. Our diaries are also stacking up in the new year. I'm heading back to work Jan 6th and I already have a handful of client meetings organised. Going back to the seemingly shorter holidays than normal, is this what you are experiencing in your work environment? Is this because there is pent up demand in organisations now? Is there building pressure to do more with less time? Will be interesting to see the impact on the employment market early in the year. What are your thoughts/predictions?

Building Surveyors – Can you ease the pain of the cost-of-living crisis? Everyone is being affected by the cost-of-living crisis, but the right move now could reduce that risk for you this winter. Here’s how: Winter has crept up on us this year and it already the nights are drawing in and the temperature will soon drop into single figures. Along with that depressing fact, our exorbitant energy and food bills are not looking to get better any time soon. Lighting, heating, hot water, food… Inflation has hit everything and is impacting all but the highest paid. With bills at all-time highs, many will struggle, and even those who don’t will find their disposable income greatly reduced. However, you could have the power to soften the blow. It’s important to remember that you only really need to bridge the gap between today’s costs and the price rise. With this in mind, securing a new job could be the right move for you because there are a number of financial benefits, including (but not limited to): ✔ Salary increase - The average Building Surveyor can comfortably increase their salary by £5k in the current market, and there are plenty of options out there. ✔ A better office – Not all offices are equal. This could be an opportunity to find somewhere bright and comfortable with good freebies, including coffee, tea, snacks etc. ✔ A shorter commute – Full WFH during lockdown may have allowed you to work for a company further from home, but with many companies looking to increase “office time” an office with a cheaper and quicker commute could become very attractive. There are certainly still risks involved with a career move, but with the right support and a well-thought-out strategy, you could considerably reduce the impact of this winter’s cost-of-living crisis before it really hits, whilst also taking your next career step. So, if you want to discuss a strategic approach to a moving your career forward and improving your earnings, just contact me and we can start the conversation. "Your leaves are canceled" That was a message one of my friends got in the mail when they applied for their leave. They went to the office every day, with no sick leaves, no half days, and saved all the leaves at the end of the year for one family function that was about to happen the next month. Tickets were booked, resorts were booked, everything was planned, and even other relatives flew to the other city. And just in time when they were in office, they got this mail from the seniors. They really can't do anything now, their hands are tied and their mouths are shut, they just have to obey the orders. Is this fine? No, is it fine for corporations to treat their employees like this? They had this really honest hardworking employee in their firm and they treated them like this? There's a reason why everyone hates working in the corporates. Understanding situations, human behavior, and empathy are the least that managers have to have within. Employees get paid to do their work, they are not purchased by their employer. This is heartbreaking. No one should go through this. I wonder, how many people go through this daily. Someone missed a closed wedding function, someone had to skip their child's birthday, and someone had to work a few extra hours just so they could have the next day all by themselves. I pray that we get to a solution for this ASAP so that everyone works happily and is satisfied with their job. #work #companyculture #toxicworkplace #job #socialmedia
