How do you know if you’re being protected from colorectal cancer ? Another study showing the relationship between adenoma detection rate (ADR) and post colonoscopy colorectal cancer (PCCRC). Not all colonoscopies are equal it seems. The adenoma detection rate of the colonoscopist performing your colonoscopy tells us a lot about your risk of developing colorectal cancer before your next colonoscopy is due. There was an entire order of magnitude difference between the risks for patients having their colonoscopy with a provider who’s ADR is below 25% compared with 70% and above !! Patients and referrers can and should ask about the adenoma detection rate of the colonoscopist. Colonoscopists can continually refine the way they examine, the bowel preparation they use and other technologies they employ. Minimum standards for adenoma and serrated lesion detection should be set at levels that offer real protection. #colorectalcancer #colonoscopy #screening
