A force united by a promise to end breast cancer, funding groundbreaking research, community health & advocacy programs.
About us
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Two years later, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. For over 40 years, we've led the way funding groundbreaking research, community health initiatives and advocacy programs in local communities across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. And with your help, we’ll continue pushing for progress to end breast cancer every day, until it’s a thing of the past. Results of a new study by Arvinas shows that the combination of a new drug called vepdegestrant works well with abemaciclib to treat patients with advanced #breastcancer who have already tried other treatments. Study participants also had less serious side effects, which could mean better quality of life for patients. Learn more about the VERITAC-2 trial, which is also exploring how vepdegestrant can benefit patients. https://bit.ly/3xZQo2v #SABCS24

Today U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy advised that the warning labels on alcohol should be updated to include cancer risk, citing alcohol consumption as a risk factor in several cancers, including breast cancer. Congress would need to approve this change. Komen has information on our website about the connection between alcohol and an increased risk of breast cancer. Studies show that women who drank 2-3 alcoholic drinks per day had a 20% higher risk of breast cancer than women who didn’t drink alcohol. Talk with your doctor about your risk of breast cancer. Understanding your family health history can help you manage your health better by learning your risks and taking action as needed. Tune into the latest episode of Komen's Real Pink podcast to hear Jerry Carnes share about his family's extensive history of cancer. He's lost multiple family members to both breast and prostate cancers and is a prostate cancer survivor himself. His hope is that by that sharing his family’s experience, he can inspire others to take charge of their health by learning their histories and getting regular screenings. https://apple.co/2LMAcsi Thank you to Johnson & Johnson for supporting the Real Pink Podcast.
