📚 Knowledge is Nutrition: The Power of Awareness 🥦 In the fight against malnutrition, one of the most powerful tools we have is education. During my work in nutrition and public health, I’ve learned that equipping individuals and families with the right knowledge can create lasting change. Key lessons from the field: 🔑 Awareness Drives Action: Simple knowledge about balanced diets, breastfeeding practices, and hygiene can significantly reduce malnutrition. 🔑 Behavioral Change Takes Time: Repeated engagement through awareness sessions ensures that communities adopt and sustain healthy practices. 🔑 Education Empowers Women: Women, as primary caregivers, play a crucial role in shaping the health of their families. By educating and involving them, we address malnutrition at its roots. Programs addressing malnutrition must include awareness campaigns, training for health workers, and community sessions. Together, we can create an environment where education fuels better health outcomes for all. 💬 What role do you think education plays in combating malnutrition? Grocery costs are still high! The Older Americans Nutrition Program has been able to help increase nutrition security and reduce social isolation for seniors with programs like Meals on Wheels. There’s a pressing need to increase funding to account for more seniors needing these services AND increased grocery costs! #NutritionSecurity #SupportHealthyAging #SupportSeniors #HealthyMeals https://lnkd.in/eXmwkTwK

Thinking about standing up a Maternal Health Nutrition Program for FY2025 to ensure moms and their newborns get the best start in life? Got leftover budget for FY2024 to stand up a targeted post discharge Nutrition Program to lower re-admission rates for cancer patients? Maybe you're planning a study to determine the efficacy and ROI of medically-tailored meals vs medically-tailored groceries for young working adults suffering from diabetes? Or maybe, you just got funding to lower the use of expensive acute medical services by military personnel or veterans suffering from chronic disease and need medically-tailored meals? Working through the lens of Health Equity, The Cook's Nook helps healthcare organizations to drive better health outcomes through direct access to high-quality chef-driven nutrition (not just calories!) for vulnerable populations living at the intersection of nutrition insecurity and medical condition, be it pregnancy, diabetes, renal disease or heart disease. Let us know how we can help develop a nutritional program for your organization to drive better outcomes for the target populations you serve.
We are proud to reflect on the "Food is the Best Medicine" program at Ascension Seton, where nutritious meals are provided to new mothers facing food insecurity. This program not only reduces stress for moms and increases food security but also holds the potential for better health outcomes (research is ongoing!). The data gathered through this pilot program will help study the impact of food access on breastfeeding rates and duration, improvements in mothers' mental health scores, better physical health outcomes for both mothers and babies, changes in home cooking habits and food insecurity after the program ends, and the effectiveness of community health workers versus online resources in reducing food insecurity and improving outcomes. The program is funded by the Ascension Seton Foundation, with support from The Cook's Nook and Farmshare Austin, as well as research by the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Austin. We are honored to be part of this initiative and look forward to seeing its continued growth and success. Did you know that almost one in 10 children have obesity in their first year of school? Data from the government’s national child measurement programme, which covers mainstream state-maintained schools in England also shows that children from the most deprived areas are more likely to have obesity. This prompted us to explore the relationship between healthy food affordability and childhood obesity in our next podcast episode. Our host, Kate Wall Nutritionist (RNutr) at Kate Wall Nutrition, invited Anita Morandi from the University of Verona to discuss #healthyfoodaffordability and how the Obelisk project is conducting trials to develop predictive tools and targeted prevention strategies for limiting the progression of obesity in children. Stay tuned as this promises to be an insightful conversation that will deepen our understanding of #childhoodobesity in relation to healthy food affordability. 5 Signs Your Baby is Thriving During Weaning: What Every Mother Should Know! As a public health physician and a mother of three, I understand the many questions that arise during the weaning process. One common concern is: "How do I know my baby is adjusting well to weaning?" Here are some signs to look out for: 1. Good Appetite Your baby shows interest in food by opening their mouth when offered a spoon, reaching for food, or getting excited during mealtimes. 2. Healthy Weight Gain Weaning should complement breast milk or formula. If your baby is gaining weight steadily and staying within a healthy range, that's a great sign they are adjusting well. 3. Happy After Eating If your baby seems content and satisfied after eating solid foods, it means they are getting enough nutrients from their new diet. 4. Stool Changes It's normal for stools to change in texture and color once solids are introduced. As long as your baby isn’t experiencing diarrhea or constipation, things are likely going well. 5. Good Developmental Milestones Is your baby hitting milestones like sitting up, crawling, or responding to sounds? This shows they are getting the right nutrients and energy to grow well. Remember, every baby is different, and weaning takes time. Be patient, follow your baby's cues, and don't rush the process. If you’re ever in doubt, speak to a healthcare provider for guidance. Your baby’s health and well-being are the priority, and I’m here to help guide you along the way. How is your baby adjusting to weaning so far? Share your experiences below! #Weaning #ChildNutrition #HealthyDevelopment #PublicHealth #LinkedinMBAwithBiolu _________________________________________ I am, Ifeoluwa Udoh, a public health physician, and I can help make your medical campaigns and health information better and easier to understand through the act of infusing creativity into health and life making the decision-making process easier.

Too often the health care system focuses disproportionately on treatment instead of prevention. Something as basic as nutrition – which encompasses access to healthy, affordable food – is a game-changer for our overall health. Programs like WIC and the Older Americans Act are examples of important federal health policy that help build a foundation for life-long health and well-being, especially for populations facing the most barriers to good health. These programs help support families and ensure older adults receive the nutritious meals they need at all stages of life. #HealthNotJustHealthCare https://lnkd.in/gkWCdMh4
