🌟 Stand Up for the Nutrition of Our Elders in Care Homes! 🌟 As we advocate for our own health and nutrition, it is crucial that we also champion the well-being of our parents and grandparents in frail care and dementia care facilities. 🥦🍎 Far too often, these facilities compromise the quality of food served to their residents. Our loved ones, who have nurtured us throughout our lives, deserve the same steadfast commitment to health that we hold for ourselves. Here's why we need to be vigilant and uncompromising: Nutritional Needs Increase with Age: As people age, their nutritional requirements become more specific. Proper nutrition can prevent or manage chronic diseases, improve cognitive function, and enhance overall quality of life. Vulnerability: Our parents and grandparents in these facilities often cannot advocate for themselves. They rely on us to ensure they are treated with dignity and care. Health Impacts: Poor diet can lead to malnutrition, weakened immune systems, and exacerbation of existing health conditions, drastically affecting their quality of life and longevity. What can you do? Ask Questions: Inquire about the menu plans and food sourcing at your loved one’s facility. Ensure they prioritise fresh, nutritious meals over processed options. Visit During Meals: Observe mealtimes to see firsthand what is being served. Engage with the staff about your concerns and expectations. Collaborate: Join or form a resident family committee to address and advocate for better nutritional standards collectively. Educate and Raise Awareness: Share information with other families and caregivers. Use your voice on social media and community platforms to highlight these issues. Our loved ones deserve to age with dignity and health. Let’s stand up for their right to nutritious, wholesome food. 🗣️💪 Together, we can make a significant difference in their lives. #ElderCare #NutritionMatters #AdvocateForChange #HealthyAgeing

Access to nutritious food is essential for the health of birthing individuals. Chlo’e Edwards, CEO of Transformative Changes, emphasizes the systemic implications of food insecurity on maternal health. The Virginia Food is Medicine Coalition is advocating for innovative solutions, including the proposed In Lieu of Service benefit aimed at expanding access to healthy food for pregnant and postpartum Medicaid members. This initiative not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but also has the potential to improve long-term health outcomes. Engaging with these efforts can lead to broader discussions on public health and nutrition access. #FoodInsecurity #MaternalHealth #PublicHealth #FoodIsMedicine #CommunityWellbeing https://lnkd.in/ew-z2uQh
