A new project delivered in the heart of London’s West End! This summer, Legendre UK successfully delivered Shorts Gardens (Arclight Development), a carefully planned retrofit and redevelopment project revitalising historic buildings in Covent Garden. Commissioned by SGLLP, a joint venture between Span Group Ltd and Pearl & Coutts Ltd (Part of Structadene Group), project designed by Buckley Gray Yeoman, the scheme has transformed a former electricity substation⚡and warehouse into a mixed-use development.   The project spans 50,000 square feet, providing 30,000 square feet of office space across eight floors and four high-quality residences, including a penthouse with a private rooftop terrace.   Delivered in a challenging environment, the project involved working with 100-year-old structures, navigating the proximity of a Crossrail tunnel 🚇, and managing narrow streets and multiple party walls. 🏗️ Construction included dividing the basement into two levels, adding new floors, and restoring the original façade to increase natural light and enhance the streetscape.   A central feature of the development is the Dynamo Hall, a four-storey space that previously housed generators for London’s theatre district. It now boasts a 13.5-metre-high atrium and a bespoke light sculpture, bringing natural light into the building while honouring its industrial heritage.   Sustainability was a key focus throughout, with the project achieving a BREEAM Very Good certification. 🌍 Bloom Construction at NLA’s Retrofit First – The Future of London’s Hotels 🌍   Last week, we attended the insightful NLA event focused on retrofitting hotels in London. As retrofit is a topic close to our hearts, here’s a quick overview of the event:   Gary Mountford (EPR Architects): Gary discussed the retrofit of the Nomad Hotel in Covent Garden, a Grade II-listed Victorian building that now boasts an infilled glass atrium. Once the Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station, it’s a shining example of sensitive adaptation.   David Glossop (Introba): David shared lessons from the retrofit of the Amano Hotel on Drury Lane, a former 1980s office building. He stressed that not every building can be a hotel and advised tackling the difficult aspects first to let the simpler solutions follow naturally.   Ana Araújo (Buro Happold): Ana discussed Whiteley’s transformation from a department store into a mixed-use development with a hotel, showcasing how heritage preservation can align with carbon reduction and circular economy strategies. Oklahoma Announces Plan For Nation’s Tallest Building Oklahoma Tallest Building Move over New York City… The country’s tallest building will soon call Oklahoma its home. A new real estate initiative is bringing a giant building to the state’s capital city… Here’s what you need to know. Oklahoma’s Tallest Building Coming Soon Legacy Tower in Oklahoma City will soon be considered the tallest building in the country and reach a whopping 1907 feet. NOT TO MENTION, LEGACY TOWER WILL BE THE TALLEST BUILDING IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE AND THE 6TH TALLEST BUILDING WORLDWIDE. This upcoming building will also dethrone the One World Trade Center in Manhattan as one of the highest buildings. Legacy Tower’s 1907-foot height refers to the year Oklahoma joined the union. Originally, the building was going to be 1750 feet tall… However, the team behind the initiative asked the city council to approve a zoning change to make the building even taller. The building is looking to house over 1,000 luxury apartments, at least one hotel, and offices. Oklahoma’s tallest building will be part of Boardwalk of Bricktown. The development will be built in phases, with phase one constructing a hotel and two residential buildings. Phase two will construct the Legacy Tower. Altogether, the project will be completed in 5 years.
