Is it really too late to prevent climate catastrophe? Although the situation is serious, there is still an opportunity for humanity to avoid the worst of climate change. Every tenth of a degree matters, as the IPCC reports show. UNEP's latest emissions gap report found that if it cut greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent by 2030, the world could limit the rise in global temperature to 1.5°C. This would be possible by increasing funding and focusing on low-carbon development in transport, agriculture, and forestry. #MinistryofEnvironmentandWater #climatechange #myths

We all know what needs to be done for transformational change—use less fossil fuel, conserve biodiversity, and manage water resources better. But why aren't we taking action? Robert Nasi, CIFOR-ICRAF Chief Operating Officer, explores the barriers to change and discusses how forestry, trees, and agroforestry offer solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/dVwFG5CC #Trees4Resilience #COP29

🔥 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 🌲 Raging wildfires in California are wreaking havoc on forestry programs that many companies rely on for their climate strategies. These fires are burning up trees specifically planted to offset carbon emissions. As these carbon credit forests go up in smoke, it's making us wonder if using forests to offset carbon is really a smart move. 💡 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲? With wildfires getting worse and more frequent, it's clear that just planting trees isn't enough to fight climate change. We need to rethink how we do carbon credits and find tougher ways to cut emissions. 🔗 𝗗𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱: https://lnkd.in/e9bGCeVJ 🔗 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀? The #climate crisis has put carbon sequestration and carbon offset projects on the international agenda. But what role can forests play in removing carbon emissions? Can healthy forests help Pennsylvania achieve state-wide climate mitigation goals? Margarita Fernandez writes about 4 ways to achieve climate change mitigation and forest resilience through the application of climate-smart forestry: https://lnkd.in/ersp9xPX

The climate crisis is already hitting every nation, with spiraling human and economic costs, and the planet is still heading for a dangerously high temperature rise of 2.7°C. The deadline is approaching for the 200 parties to the Paris Agreement to develop new national plans (NDCs 3.0) to counter the #ClimateCrisis. The plans must be aligned with a 1.5°C pathway and cover all greenhouse gases and sectors, including energy, agriculture, land use and forestry, transport, industry and waste. https://lnkd.in/egyiWCDf

Ahead of the general election on 4 July, we published a #CalltoAction document, Trees for People, Place and Nature: Growing Trees for Tomorrow's needs, setting out four key areas for government to recognise and act on. We are calling for the next government to commit to working with the forestry profession to unlock the potential of our trees, woods and forests, in support of delivering against the timber, biodiversity, and climate crises. Forests naturally absorb CO₂, making them essential in the fight against climate change. Through afforestation and reforestation, we can capture carbon, reduce emissions, and protect biodiversity. Investing in forestry is key to a sustainable future. #SEEFA #SaveIrishForestry

Let me tell you a story... It's a story about forests. It's a story about European forests. It's a story about European forests and their critical role. It's a story about European forests and their critical role in the climate fight. And it's also a story about Ingeborg, who moved across Europe to build Impact Forestry. But that's another story, one that you can watch via the link in the comments.
European forests can play a critical role in climate mitigation, but not all forests are created equal. To tackle this, we need the tools to identify and nurture the right types of forests. Today, about three-quarters of the EU’s forests are even-aged, which makes them vulnerable to widespread destruction from extreme weather events due to climate change. For us to maximise their carbon removal potential while preserving biodiversity, we need to create resilient forest ecosystems that can adapt to this volatility. This is why we developed Impact Forestry. Our technology not only empowers landowners to accurately assess their forests' carbon removal potential, but also optimise forest management practices to enhance biodiversity and unlock their maximum capacity for climate mitigation. In our latest article, we discuss the inspiration behind our solution and how it can help the EU play a leading role in global climate action. Written by Ingeborg Mägi, our Head of Solutions, this piece offers a unique perspective on the future of Impact Forestry in the EU.
