What does former President Toomas_Hendrik Ilves think about carbon projects? They’re not only a solution to climate change. They’re also about preserving legacy. As someone with a farm that's been in his family for generations, Mr. Ilves is acutely aware of the responsibilities that come with it. And in this podcast episode, he sheds some light on the long-term vision of landowners. Landowners must think beyond the present to anticipate how future generations will care for their estate. In this clip, he discusses how joining carbon projects offers landowners a chance to contribute to fighting climate change while also generating a steady forest income to ensure the long-term sustainability of their land. Watch the full conversation between former President Ilves and our co-founder, Kristjan Lepik, at the link in the comments below.

Is Europe or the US better positioned to lead the climate fight? As former President Toomas_Hendrik Ilves shares, the answer doesn’t lie with one side alone. Rather, it depends on collective climate action. While governments around the world are tackling the issue in their own ways, the role of citizens cannot be ignored. For meaningful action, we must create a conducive environment where individuals can proactively take steps toward a more sustainable future. For landowners, this means maximising their land’s carbon sequestration potential by planting forests or protecting existing ones. The result is stronger climate resilience, healthier ecosystems, and a legacy for generations to come. It’s this time of the year again where Christmas trees light up our homes. We’d like to know: what tree have you chosen this year? Whether you’ve chosen a real tree, a reusable plastic tree, or a living tree in a pot, each option has its merits. This is a judgment-free zone🎄 p.s. if you went with a real tree, we’d love to know the species — share it with us in the comments below

Last week, we wrapped up our final team meet-up of the year in the best way we know: in the forest. This year has been full of growth, so it felt right to take a moment to pause and reflect. What started as a small group has nearly tripled in size, with colleagues joining us from across the world. We spent our days together laying the groundwork for next year. And when we weren’t deep in strategy sessions, you could find us hiking through an icy bog (with some tree yoga included), and celebrating the year at our festive Christmas party. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. We look forward to continue growing in 2025 🌳

Phew, what a year it’s been! We just wrapped up our Arbonics team week, fittingly ending in a forest—and the first picture says it all. The feeling? Pure "We did it!" (or maybe, "Can you believe we did this?"). Our team grew from 11 to nearly 30 this year—a big leap for any startup. With my co-founder and partner in forests, Lisett, on maternity leave for the second half of the year, it really pushed the limits of founder competence (and sometimes, let’s be honest, past them). Amidst the fun during the party, I had a moment. It struck me how far we’ve come in just three years. What started as a dream in a forest is now a reality: millions of trees planted and saved, a world-class team of forest warriors from Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Australia, France, the US, UK, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia—and we’re just getting started. In the day-to-day hustle of short-term goals, it’s easy to forget how much ground we’ve covered—not just in a year, but since the beginning. The second picture? That’s tree yoga in a bog, on ice. European forests can play a critical role in climate mitigation, but not all forests are created equal. To tackle this, we need the tools to identify and nurture the right types of forests. Today, about three-quarters of the EU’s forests are even-aged, which makes them vulnerable to widespread destruction from extreme weather events due to climate change. For us to maximise their carbon removal potential while preserving biodiversity, we need to create resilient forest ecosystems that can adapt to this volatility. This is why we developed Impact Forestry. Our technology not only empowers landowners to accurately assess their forests' carbon removal potential, but also optimise forest management practices to enhance biodiversity and unlock their maximum capacity for climate mitigation. In our latest article, we discuss the inspiration behind our solution and how it can help the EU play a leading role in global climate action. Written by Ingeborg Mägi, our Head of Solutions, this piece offers a unique perspective on the future of Impact Forestry in the EU. As Estonia’s former president and the owner of a family farm, Toomas_Hendrik Ilves brings a unique perspective to tackling the climate crisis. So when our co-founder Kristjan asked him, “What more can Europe do?”, his response brought together both viewpoints. So far, most climate mitigation policies have maintained a top-down approach, with overarching goals set for the future. But genuine climate impact is most impactful with on-ground action where everybody is involved. To reach critical momentum, we must each do our part. As Toomas_Hendrik Ilves shares in this clip, anyone who owns lands in Europe can make a meaningful environmental impact by planting trees, enabling carbon sequestration and preserving ecosystems. We’re proud to see our work featured in Forbes! Our co-founder and CEO, Kristjan Lepik spoke with Jamie Hailstone, alongside Marta Krupinska from CUR8 about scaling carbon removal and the growing supply crunch in the voluntary carbon market. As Marta highlights: “There are estimated to be around 2,000 carbon removal projects around the world today, but by 2030 demand is expected to outstrip supply by a factor of at least two”. We couldn't agree more. As deadlines for net-zero targets approach, demand for reliable carbon removal credits will surge, putting further strain on supply. And while nature-based solutions are a proven “350-million-year-old technology”, they need trusted, high-quality approaches to ensure positive outcomes. That’s why we focus on the highly-regulated European market, partnering closely with landowners to deliver solutions that balance climate impact with local benefits. “Nature is absurdly logical,” he added. “We are trying to create data and scientific models for every acre of land, in order to decide what is the best use of that land and improve its carbon removal potential.” That's how I summarized our fight in the latest Forbes article. Marta Krupinska added that carbon removals are the "space race of 21st century", rightly calling the carbon removal credits a new asset class. Two more great quotes from Marta: "She said there are estimated to be around 2,000 carbon removal projects around the world today, but by 2030 demand is expected to outstrip supply by a factor of at least two." “And not all carbon credits are equal, making thorough due diligence and tailored high-quality carbon removal portfolios essential for businesses to reach net zero,”
