🏠 Planning to Move Over the Holidays? Here's What You Need to Know About Notice Periods The holiday season is fast approaching, and if you're considering giving notice on your rental property, timing is everything! Here's a quick guide to help you navigate the notice period rules. During normal times, it's pretty simple: Your 28-day notice period starts the day after your landlord receives your notice (as long as you send it before 5pm for emails or texts). Think of it this way - if you give notice on a Thursday, your notice period kicks off on Friday. But here's the holiday twist! 🎄 The Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) has special provisions for the festive season. This year: Last working day: Monday, December 23 First working day of 2025: Monday, January 6 What does this mean for you? Let's say you pop your notice in during the holiday period (December 24 - January 5). According to the RTA, it won't be officially "received" until the first working day back - that's Monday, January 6. Your notice period would then start from Tuesday, January 7. Quick example: If you send your notice on December 21, your final tenancy date would be Tuesday, February 4. That's quite a difference from regular timing! 💡 Pro Tip: Factor these dates into your moving plans to avoid any surprises. Early planning is key during the holiday season! Got questions? TIP OF THE WEEK: Holidays can be the busiest time of the year for some businesses. How do you handle holiday time off requests though when you may need your staff on deck more than other times of the year? Here are 3 tips to help get your projects finished and keep your staff happy: 1 – Allow staff to make trade-offs. It may be possible that someone can cover for that staff member for the time needed without neglecting their own projects. 2 – Don’t assume that everyone wants to celebrate the holidays. Ask your staff’s preference. There may be some staff members that would prefer to work on holidays and have off some other day off. 3 – Show you care. You may not be able to accommodate everyone’s request but don’t act like it is no big deal. Apologize to that staff member for denying their request and possibly offer a tradeoff of some kind. #holidaytimeoff #holidays #pivotgrowthpartners #pivotgrowth

Public holidays now live in Operating. You don't have to ask people to mark them manually anymore! This means time saved and more accurate forecasts. How it works: - Create public holiday calendars based on a country's or state's specific holiday calendar - Assign public holiday calendars for groups of people at once, e.g. a country office - Add or remove specific holidays to create custom holiday calendars

After yet another public holiday in Thailand yesterday, annoyingly right in the middle of the week, it got me thinking about how holidays compare around the world. Thailand has 19 public holidays in 2024 (and counting), as it feels like they keep adding more each year. With so many public holidays, some companies give shockingly low annual leave allowances, sometimes as little as 6 days, with an average of only 10-12 days. When I compare this to places like the UK, where there are just 8 public holidays, companies are much more generous with annual leave, offering 20-25 days on average. It’s a big difference. As a business owner here in Thailand, the sheer number of public holidays can be frustrating. It often feels like you rarely get a full week of uninterrupted work. Personally, I’d prefer fewer public holidays in exchange for more annual leave, giving employees the flexibility to take time off when it suits them best. I completely understand the importance of sacred religious and remembrance days, but the number of holidays in Thailand seems excessive, especially for businesses trying to maintain momentum. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance between respecting traditions and giving people control over their own time. What are your thoughts? Do you prefer more public holidays or more flexible leave?

Spring holidays are coming up. That means, if you have employees, your employees may be celebrating a holiday and it may be a holiday you don't personally observe. Try to accommodate requests off when possible. But even more than that, make sure your employees **know** that they can request off for holidays. There was one year in my old firm when I worked on Orthodox Christmas. I had a PFA hearing scheduled and believed that work came first. This wasn't because of anything my boss said or did. He was a great boss, and was horrified when he learned I did that! But he was also someone who didn't like regular Christmas and didn't understand the concept of someone observing it twice. It never crossed his mind to proactively offer time off, and he assumed I would request off if I needed it. The situation could have been avoided entirely. The employer/employee power dynamic is not equal. It's not always easy for employees to request time off, especially in the legal profession. Before relying on your staff to assume it will be okay, try proactively advising everyone that they can request time off.

This is your reminder to take some annual leave. If you never take your holidays read on…I’ve just had a week off and I can’t wait to get stuck back in. I’m raring to go with a load of fresh ideas. Here’s the secret. My friend and colleague Laine showed me this excellent technique of booking all your annual leave at the start of the holiday year using school half terms as a guide. Schools know learning minds need regular breaks and as professionals we know that productivity needs space to breathe. Being so over worked and stressed out is an indication you’re probably not doing your best work. And remember- if you think it all falls apart when you’re not there, it won’t. And if it does, then your systems and delegations are not resilient or up to task. Make sure it’s not all in your head and can be handed over. So here’s something new to try if you’re bad at taking breaks: Use school half terms as a guide to take regular breaks. Take a screenshot of the pic below and book your holidays for next year. You can adjust the number of days for each period depending what you have available. I guarantee it will give you regular breaks to look forward to and make sure you’re not leaving all your time off for a mad rush at the end of the year! #personaldevelopment #selfcare #productivity #advice

It's that time of year where you start seeing the below image all over Linkedin with comments like "What your holidays are like when you are in Logistics" As much as it is amusing and to a point, is true, for me it is a sad reflection of what people's mentality is nowadays. Annual leave is not a luxury, it is a necessity. A time to recharge, reconnect with yourself, friends, family etc. Allowing you to get back to your desk refreshed and ready to go. If you are constantly giving 110% of yourself, you will burn out, you are giving more than you actually have, which will result in the reverse of what your end goal, ultimately is. Annual leave also gives you the opportunity to hand the steering of the ship over to your second in command or other team members. You spend a large amount of time developing people and working with them to get them where you know they can be. Annual leave is an amazing opportunity to give them the autonomy that is needed and show them the trust and confidence you have in them to smash it out of the park. That's why on that that note, at 17:30 today my out of office will be going on and control handed over to my team who I know will thrive and flourish!
