All of us are waiting for Christmas Holidays from 20th to 2nd of January. That means, we still have important things to do: - Register vacation form in HR system 🤗 - Block out your calendar with "OOO" until 2nd of January 🗓️ - Put "Out-of-Office" automatic reply - the sillier the better 🌴 - Decline and cancel all meetings that will happen during your vacation 🫣 - Choose Christmas-related Teams background 🎄 - Wear your "ugly" Christmas sweater at least once - Say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New year" to colleagues that you won't meet until next year 🎅 - End all meetings with "We will resume this next year" 🆕 - Conveniently schedule important meetings for next year with excuse "It does not make sense to start it before holidays" 😶🌫️ - Finish buying presents online (we all do it, do not lie) 🎁 - Do some actual work 🫠 #christmaschecklist #humor #DanskeBankFCRP

Raise your hand if you worked during the holiday when you didn’t have to. Want to know why I don’t have a hard time not working over the holidays? It’s not because I hate my job. I don’t. It took me getting sick, exhausted and full of anxiety before I started to enjoy other things outside of work. Did you know, more than 4 in 10 U.S. workers don't take all their paid time off? Things like putting up Christmas décor is extremely relaxing and can be beneficial to when I am working. It enhanced my creativity Showed how important organization is And why changing your surroundings isn’t a bad thing Now I can only imagine how much I would have missed had I: Took phone calls Been on LinkedIn Was glued to my emails And anything else work related Guess what? In disconnecting from work, I protected my peace and came back excited about a new week. P.S. You need a break. My case for giving you team vacation between Christmas and New Years: 1) Everyone in the company off at the same time means you don't have to be constantly checking your email/slack so you don't fall behind while you're away. Syncing time off let's you actually get time off. 2) All your customers are likely also on vacation so even more so a reason that allows everyone to actually unplug. 3) January is going to be EXTRA busy so get in some recharge time now so you can kick ass at the start of the year. 4) Are you really expecting your team to be that productive then anyways? However much time you all get off from work this holiday season, enjoy it!

I'm off on holiday tomorrow - a much needed break after having to postpone it from earlier in the year due to circumstances beyond anyone's control! But that got me thinking about how other business leaders treat holidays? Do you completely switch off? Are you in frequent contact with the office? Occasional contact? Or not at all? I know 100% that no-one from my team will be on contact with me when I am away. Perhaps if a site burnt down they may be, but not otherwise. In fact, I learned very early on in my business career, that holidays were a good opportunity for people to grow. Give someone else one of my normal tasks whilst I am away, and they generally did a great job. So much so, that they could keep it permanently when I got back. One less thing for me to do. Win-win. It comes down to how much you trust your people. So, how many times do you contact people from your business when away? Every day? Every other day? Once a week? Or not at all? Let me know. It's quiet at the office and on the roads at the moment as people take advantage of the long bank holiday weekend. This got me thinking about an article I read recently about the rising trend of "quiet vacationing" in the US - the giant workaround culture where employees are more likely to take time off, just without telling their boss! Bringing their work on vacation! Imagine working in an environment where you are worried about asking for time off in case it is viewed as lazy or slacking? It is no surprise that this is more prevalent in Millenials than Gen Z, with Gen Z more likely to be vocal about encouraging a better work culture and work-life balance. At its core, this trend is a call for a change in how we view work. Companies that cultivate an environment of trust and transparency can bridge the generational gap and support their employees better. Encouraging open communication about time off and prioritising mental health can lead to a more productive and satisfied workforce.
