Do you check your emails while on vacation? "A recent survey revealed that a staggering 54% of US adults work while on vacation, and whether they work or not, roughly 50% feel guilty while taking time off. 86% of poll respondents say they receive calls and messages from colleagues while on vacation, 63% say they feel anxious if they don’t check their work inboxes and 59% struggle to switch off from work. To make your escape more enjoyable, try the following: 1. Set expectations of your team/co-workers and clients as to when you will or won't be available. 2. Cancel all push notifications. 3. Plan distractions that actually fully distract you from work or thinking about work." -USA TODAY

A friend recently got fired from her job, despite having made proper communication and planning before her vacation. Her employers reached out to her during her time off, demanding that she work. Due to her location and other constraints, she was unable to comply. Consequently, she was locked out of the organisation's database and informed that she had been terminated. Employees often give their all, working around the clock to meet deadlines and ensure smooth operations. However, expecting them to work during their vacation and firing them for not doing so is unreasonable. Yet, this reflects the harsh realities of the world we live in. People now feel guilty about taking their well-deserved time off and it shouldn't be so. Employers often believe that there is always someone who can do the job better for lower compensation, leading them to make such drastic decisions without hesitation. While we all strive to build and create value, it is crucial for both employers and employees to establish and maintain boundaries that respect both the business needs and personal lives.

Have you ever questioned whether taking time off is worth it because the #stress of preparing for a #vacation is so high? If so, you’re not alone. While it’s difficult to remove all stress as you plan to head out of the office, a few #strategies can reduce your headaches and set yourself up for success once you return. 🌟✨First, plan ahead by identifying the #priority items you need to get done before you leave. 🌟✨Then partner with #peers #todelegate work while you’re away. For those items you know can’t get done, decide to wait and communicate this plan to others. 🌟✨ Finally, #signoff from work while you’re away, as much as possible.

A couple of thoughts from a constant worrier who just came back from vacation: 1. Your team; if trained and properly equipped and informed are capable of keeping the wheels running. 2. It’s ok to not reply to that email, text, or answer that work call on vacation. If push comes to shove, give them a team member’s contact information. 3. Start your first day back off early so you can catch up before the day really begins.

Summer is the prime time for vacation, offering a much-needed break from the daily grind of tactical and strategic work. Have you taken time off to unwind and recharge this season?
