As part of Amadeus Synergize, Rob Golledge hosted the Travel Trends segment in front of an audience of the industry’s finest, showcasing Travel trends for the coming year. We presented ours, we heard from Amadeus, and also from our partner Booking.com, presented by Justin Chalmers. All of the presentations were super-aligned, and the audience was energised to see the synergised commonalities in the illustrious trends for 2025. Hello! Today I joined what felt like the rest of the world at the aptly named World Travel Market (WTM) London for what might be the world´s largest B2B speed dating event. Thank you Affinity Angels Travel Marketing for the invite. (Below is a 60 second read 😊) It was also lovely to bump into my old mate and media legend Mr Darren Khan ;-) Here are my top 10 World Travel Market (WTM) London observations from day 1: 1. The event is a huge and wonderfully elaborate connection point for the entire global industry. The standard of exhibit was exceptional but the Middle East and Sri-Lanka stood out for me personally. 2. It was so exciting to be surrounded by representatives from so many countries and cultures – many of whom were in traditional dress. I represented the UK in traditional M&S. 3. The travel industry (like many) is obsessing (quite rightly) about climate change and sustainable travel. One new buzz phrase was ´sustainable discovery´. 4. To some minds this is simply ´discovery´ with the word sustainable put in front of it. To be honest, I didn’t see as much evidence of sustainable action or behaviours, but I did see lots of plastic throw away merchandise. I hope that the exhibitors take the opportunity to challenge themselves to actually evidence change in their marketing plans. 5. The age old cliche is that travel is about people. Without doubt human connection is critical to open and trusted business – but the travel category is also a hot bed of B2B tech innovation 6. Particularly in the integration of global travel sales systems and experiential tech. 7. WTM is a SaaS playground. And if you are interested in these developments you could come down for the day and play! 8. Despite the tech driven change, countries and regions still lean to recognisable and familiar identifiers – Antigua and Barbuda´s Rum Shack was in full effect, the Turkish were pouring tea and the Dutch brought their tulips. 9. This category was hit by covid harder than most – is was great it see it thriving. 10. Finally, it was wonderful to see my home county of Cumbria represented via the brilliant Lake District area. #travelmarketing #travelandleisure #b2b #SaaS #media #partnerships #travel #sustainable #sustainabletravel Lisa Jones Manty Atherton Darren Khan
