👷♂️ In Defense of the Field Technician: Proving a Job Well Done When something doesn’t go as expected in environmental sampling, the first person to get blamed is often the field technician. But here’s the thing: sometimes, they’re doing everything right—and it’s the tools and processes they use that can make or break their ability to prove it. With SampleServe, we’ve built a platform that doesn’t just streamline fieldwork; it ensures that every action is documented with precision, giving technicians the proof they need to show they’re doing their job correctly. Here’s a great example: A client recently noticed some unusual analytical results. Two wells, about 100 feet apart, had unexpected contaminant levels. One well, typically much "hotter," suddenly showed lower concentrations, while the other showed higher-than-expected results. Naturally, concerns arose: Had the field technician sampled the wrong well? Were the samples mislabeled? Thanks to the comprehensive data captured by the SampleServe app, we were able to prove the technician’s work was spot on: ✅ Verified Locations: The app tracks not just the well’s official location but also where the technician stood when hitting the sample button. By plotting the data on Google Earth, we confirmed the technician was within 15-20 feet of the correct location each time. ✅ Accurate Labeling: The app prints sample labels in real time, ensuring dates, times, and identifiers are precise and match the chain of custody perfectly. ✅ Authentication: Our three-part user verification—username/password, digital signature, and a selfie at the time of sampling—showed that the technician was onsite, following proper procedures, and collecting samples as required. With this data, we were able to clear the technician of any error and shift the focus to other variables that could explain the unusual results. And let me tell you, after 30+ years in the industry, I’ve seen plenty of contaminant variability that can’t always be easily explained. 🌟 What This Means for Field Technicians: SampleServe empowers field staff by documenting their work with irrefutable evidence. When questions arise, the data speaks for itself—showing that the technician followed protocols, collected samples correctly, and ensured proper labeling.
