Sydney is buzzing with exciting events in May like the Comedy Festival, Sydney Writers' Festival, and the spectacular Vivid Sydney. Many Sydneysiders and tourists will be attending these events by bus for a hassle-free experience.    At Transdev John Holland Buses NSW, safety is one of our top priorities, and we aim to provide reliable and on-time services. This week is National Road Safety Week, an initiative to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to prevent it.    If you're driving, please be bus-aware. Obey traffic signals, don't overtake buses as they are turning, give way to buses when possible, and don't obstruct buses from bus stops and bus lanes. When Serviced Accommodation Goes Wrong!🤯 https://lnkd.in/eCaszvVU Caroline and I recently stayed in serviced accommodation and although the host met us to let us in and show us round, things went a little downhill. On arrival, they casually mentioned, “Oh, you can’t get terrestrial TV channels but we don’t list TV in the amenities. - So, don’t be upset!” Seriously? Some things are just expected — like working lights, hot water, and yes, TV! 📺 Sure, there was a TV, but you needed to navigate a Fire Stick, which was overly complicated. Most guests won’t bother. And then there’s Wi-Fi - decent Wi-Fi is non-negotiable, especially if mobile signals are poor. Guests might tolerate many inconveniences, but no Wi-Fi? That’s a dealbreaker. 📶 Then came the infamous “welcome pack.” A bottle of £2.99 Aldi red wine 🍷 (not even drinkable). It was a nice thought but here’s a tip for hosts: if you’re going to leave a welcome gift, make it decent! Cheap wine, bad chocolates, or questionable cheese are just going to annoy your guests more. If you’re not willing to spend a little extra, it’s better not to bother at all. So, let’s turn this into a conversation — what’s the worst thing you’ve experienced in serviced accommodation? Day 3 of #BetterTransportWeek 2024, and thus day 3 of my personal challenge to write a daily post on how I think public transport could be better, from the perspective of someone who uses it extensively. Two shorter points today (I'm off to the pub quiz shortly!). Firstly, I think users of public transport, including me, need to shout about the positive experiences more. Generally, you only hear about public transport when journeys go wrong - they are late, overcrowded or cancelled. But in my experience that is the exception, not the norm. So let's celebrate it working! Further, we need to celebrate the hard work and accommodation of staff when things don't go right. Yes, they could sometimes be better at giving you information about what is happening - but often they don't know and are working very hard to sort it out. I have never been stranded - whenever trains have been cancelled, they have found a way to get me to my destination. Most memorably for me this included a nearly 4-hour taxi ride from Fort William to Edinburgh earlier this year, when the Caledonian Sleeper couldn't run due to flooding. And only last week, a taxi ride from Shrewsbury to Porthmadog when my train was terminated early. It just happened. Don't get me wrong, it is frustrating and tiring. But I work on the 'there's nothing I can do, so relax' principle, and it works out thanks to the efforts of the staff. Secondly, there are a wide range of excellent rover tickets that need better advertising. You can find a list at https://lnkd.in/eSUqyF2R. I've used several of these, particularly the Spirit of Scotland pass (see also https://lnkd.in/eEtdmBvz) that can give you 8 days unlimited travel across Scotland for only £189. I find them great for holidays. I believe there are similar such tickets on the bus networks, but they are more difficult to find in my experience. Anyway, quiz time. A friend is picking me up tonight, which is useful, as the buses late in the evening are not frequent or convenient... An issue for another post!

It’s not just for the safety of the workers but also for yours. Reduced speeds help you react in time to unexpected changes, protect equipment on the road, and ensure everyone makes it home safely. 🚗 Be Patient Long weekends often mean busier roads. Stay calm, avoid aggressive driving, and keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead. 🍻 Plan Your Trip Home If you’re heading to the game or enjoying the celebrations, make sure you’ve organized a safe way to get home. Don’t drink and drive. There are plenty of options available, including public transport, rideshares, or designated drivers. Let’s all do our part to keep the roads safe this long weekend. Our traffic management teams will be working hard to ensure smooth and safe travel for everyone.
